Duties :

Responsible for the supervision of employees who perform maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical refrigeration, air conditioning, compressed air, vacuum system processes, and equipment control.

Ensures work is performed in a timely manner and within budget. Handles any conflicts or problems with work performed by the HVAC staff.

Responsible for any contracts between consultants or contractors.

Responsible for monitoring time and material records for accuracy by completing material requisitions and job estimate sheets.

Develops worker assignment schedules.

Inspects all facilities periodically and makes written recommendations of costs and completion of specific repairs or preventative maintenance activities for air conditioning, mechanical refrigeration, compressed air, and vacuum systems.

Responsible for inspecting and directing employees working on projects, maintaining, and repairing equipment.

Monitors and evaluates changing technology, procedures, equipment, and materials by reading appropriate trade journals, safety codes, and operating manuals.

Recommends to management any equipment changes needed to the operating system and estimates replacement cost.

  • Supervises and evaluates employee assignments and schedules. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating performance, reprimanding, and terminating employees.
  • Conducts or arranges employee safety training to prevent the possibility of injury. Investigates department accidents or injuries and prepares a report based on the findings.
  • Schedules assigned work relative to priority and importance.
  • May assign employees to snow and ice removal from sidewalks, streets, and parking areas. Determines and assigns hand tools or heavy equipment to be used for the snow and ice removal.
  • Participates in training and educational activities. May train others on procedures and the proper operation of equipment.

Encourages employees to participate in the training and educational activities.

Performs relative duties as assigned or as required to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Job Requirements

Required Education : High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School Certification, AND :

96 months experience in construction or building maintenance related to HVAC systems including 24 months in a lead or supervisory role.

Skills :

  • Advanced knowledge of materials and tools involved in refrigeration repair and replacement
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and permits required
  • Ability to read and design more complex schematics, blue prints, and drawings
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, develop and evaluate options, and implement solutions
  • Ability to estimate costs of materials, labor, or outside contractors and ;consultants
  • Ability to supervise

Certifications :

  • Oklahoma Unlimited Mechanical Contractors License
  • EPA Refrigeration Certification
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from the hire date

Advertised Physical Requirements :

  • Physical : Standing and walking for prolonged periods. Reach, stoop, stand, bend, and reach. Ability to see color, depth perception, and clarity.
  • Environmental : Exposure to extreme weather conditions. Regular exposure to irritating noises and safety hazards
