Company Missions Statement : The Mission of JWCH Institute is to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles Area through the direct provision or coordination of health care, health education, services, and research.
The mission is being accomplished through a variety of programs and activities, such as : medical outreach and referrals for medical care, HIV services and drug treatment;
health education; psychosocial assessment and intervention; primary medical care; family planning services; and research.
Position Purpose : Support the Program Coordinator or Designee in executing the Healthy Alternatives to Reducing the Risk for HIV Infection Program (H.
A.R.R.P) by recruiting clients and conducting risk assessments and educational sessions for homeless individuals in the Downtown Skid Row area.
Principal Responsibilities :
- Identify and engage clients for participation in the H.A.R.R.P. behavior change program.
- Share personal experiences during H.A.R.R.P. HIV / AIDS behavior change sessions to reinforce positive lifestyle changes.
- Actively participate with homeless individuals in reinforcing prevention skills taught in the classes.
- Implement the H.A.R.R.P. curriculum at various outreach sites.
- Assist the Health Education Coordinator in compiling program data.
- Provide emotional and educational support to clients, motivating them to adopt healthier behaviors.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions as required.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Requirements :
- Strong ability to build positive relationships with clients living in temporary housing (e.g., shelters, missions, hotels, or substance abuse recovery facilities).
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with homeless, mentally ill, and / or substance-abusing adults, as well as professional staff.
- Reliable transportation to and from the office and all program-related sites.
- Dependability in job performance and punctuality at all sessions.
Preferred :
- Experience working with the homeless population.
- Certification from the H.A.R.R.P. Behavior Change Program.
- All JWCH, Wesley Health Centers workforce members are recommended to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
