Miami, FL On Call / Pool JW-Operating Room
Summary
Operating Room Technician 2 perform specialized work in assisting in the performance of complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms.
Employees in this classification are responsible for preparation of operating rooms for surgical procedures; maintaining operational readiness of specialized equipment;
serves as maintenance of operating room instruments and equipment following surgery.
Responsibilities
Uses a systematic process to provide / modify care and patient / family education. Assists in the inspection and indicated cleaning of the room prior to the procedure.
Assists in collection of necessary equipment and supplies utilizing the surgeons procedure card. Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work.
Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand. Performs counts with the circulating nurse. Assists in the draping of the operative site.
Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies the needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures and sponges throughout the procedure.
Assumes responsibility for the identification and maintenance of specimens after release from the surgeon until release to the circulating nurse.
Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy and procedure. Utilizes safety measures for patient, self and other team members in the handling of sharps, cautery and other equipment.
Assists, when necessary, in the transfer of patient to recovery room bed. Assists in the total clean-up and readiness of the room for another procedure.
Performs Unit specific duties. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.
Skill
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills / competencies, certifications / licensures, as required by the clinical area.
Credentials
Operating Room Technician certification preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds.
Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.

Environmental Conditions - Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations.

Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Exposure to various environments such as : communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment.
May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards.
