Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA.
This position will primarily support the engineering research group by performing small-scale R&D design projects, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with the site technicians.
This position requires a hands-on approach, a strong work ethic, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to excellence.
- Under general direction, design mechanical components for new and existing research projects at the NETL site.
- Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, including pipe / vessel design calculations and pressure relief valve sizing calculations following ASME codes such as B31.3, Section VIII and IX
- Efficiently use Autodesk AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings, including but not limited to P&IDs, mechanical fabrication drawings, and room / building layout drawings.
- Independently lead design / build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
- Lead commissioning, shakedown, and testing activities on new or modifications to electrical and control systems in the laboratories.
- Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other engineering team members to resolve issues.
- Create and review purchase orders, statements of work, and subcontracts.
- Support in-house technicians on new installations and maintenance / modification issues.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with and communicate effectively with the customer.
- Limited day travel to the Pittsburgh NETL sister site reis quired. (5%-10%)
Minimum Requirements :
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited University.
- 5 Plus years' experience.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and creating 2D drawings such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical fabrication drawings, and room / building layout drawings.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials / authorization. Note : US Citizenship is required for facility credentials / authorization at this work location
