We are looking for talented Transplant IMC - Registered Nurses to join our nursing team here at University of Maryland Medical Center.

The Surgical Transplant IMC is a monitored, 27-bed inpatient unit. The unit receives kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant patients, kidney and liver donor patients, paired kidney exchange patients, high MELD score pre-liver patients and patients readmitted for complications of transplantation.

Responsibilities / Tasks* This role is reserved for the new graduate or nurse with less than 12 months experience.* The nurse will utilize this time to learn the institution and nursing practice.

  • It is expected that a nurse in this role successfully pass the probationary period within 12 months (18 months maximum with a defined action plan developed with manager).
  • Utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice as a professional nurse.* Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level.
  • Functions effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.* Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided, and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred* Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to compact state requirements outlined by the Maryland Board of Nursing;

or Proof of NCLEX.* BLS certification.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* Knowledge and ability to understand procedures, practices and policies in the assigned department and for the medical center such as infection control guidelines.

Follows / implements established institutional / unit policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.* Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with patients, visitors, and other health care team members, to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality of patient care.

  • Ability to communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors and other members of the health care team, demonstrating positive guest relations skills and treating patient information confidentially.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Ability to work with patients involving regular exposure to infectious diseases requiring observance of universal precautions requiring wearing protective clothing, gloves, and mask as appropriate and observance of safe work practices.

Patient SafetyEnsures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.

  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.* Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
