Operator Machinist is responsible for setting up and running Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) metal working machines.
They are tasked with monitoring machinery and inspecting finished products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned :
- Experienced in running 4 and 5 axis machines.
- Loads machine by lifting stock into position.
- Takes measurements.
- Detects machine malfunctions.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Positions and secures workpiece in holding device, machine table, centers or fixtures.
- Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.
- Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications.
- Selects, positions, and secures tool in toolholder.
- Change tools, adjust heights, and tool comps to maintain required quality output of machine.
- Inspect products during the machining operation to determine if parts meet specifications, complying with established standards and methods for inspection, testing, evaluation, and calibration.
- Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications.
- Understand and comply with company policy safety guidelines, quality systems requirements and housekeeping standards.
- Removes small quantities of metal to clean parts or to produce close fit between parts.
- Drills, taps, or reams holes.

Education and / or Experience :
- Equivalent to high school education or 1-2 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
