JOB TITLE : ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO : ADMINISTRATOR
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION :
Plans, administers and directs the activity program, a planned schedule of recreational, social and other purposeful activities, individually designed to make residents life more meaningful;
to stimulate and support desire and the use of physical and mental capabilities to maintain a sense of usefulness and self respect.
Together with other personnel, develop and appropriately designs activity programs; to reach all residents individually or in groups, and to integrate same with service, resident care and related goals in the facility.
Is responsible to the administrator (or delegated authority)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES :
- Plans and implements the Activities program.
- Ascertains from the appropriate professional staff which residents are medically permitted to participate in the activity’s program.
- Coordinates the activities schedule with the schedules of other residents’ services.
- Provides the Administrator with a schedule of activities planned, at least one month in advance and posts the current monthly schedule in appropriate areas, such as residents’ rooms, main common areas, and copies to all departments.
- Maintains and up-to-date record of the type and frequency of activities provided and the number of residents participating in each activity;
provides the Administrator with a written monthly report of the type, frequency and activity provided and the number of residents participating in each activity.
- Helps orient and train members of the activity staff.
- Works with and supervise volunteers to assist with or augment the regular program. Supervises activity’s staff members in the performance of their duties.
- Plans and implements a wide variety of creative and social programs to meet in accordance with the comprehensive resident assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
- Visits’ resident within two (2) days of admittance to assess immediate needs, provides emotional support and records initial impressions.
- Makes frequent community contacts to obtain entertainment and voluntary help for activities’ programs.
- Participates in in-service programs related to residents’ activities.
- Attends conferences, seminars and in-service programs related to activity’s program enrichment and expansion.
- Responsible for setting up individual schedules and assignments of assistants and self; supervising the proper follow-through of such schedules.
- Keeps daily attendance records (or assigns).
- Compiles monthly report, incorporating daily statistics, monthly calendar and written reports describing special events.
- Writes or supervises the writing of quarterly progress reports for each residents’ medical chart.
- Order supplies as needed and is responsible for the proper utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Maintains an orderly record of expenditures and income from sales.
- Attends Resident Care Plan meeting and fills out (or assigns) scheduled MDS+.
- Assists in the selection and evaluation of activity’s program, staff, and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Is a qualified person in this filed or elated field; or
- Has five years of experience in an age appropriate social or recreational program.
- Ability to work well with others, especially in a leader-ship capacity.
- Interdisciplinary understanding
- Initiative and good judgment in adapting program to the needs of the individuals or groups
- Reliability is essential
