Summary

The Children's Oncology Group (COG), a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group, is the world's largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research.

The COG unites more than 10,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 200 leading children's hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer.

Our goal is to cure all children and adolescents with cancer, reduce the short and long-term complications of cancer treatments, and determine the causes and find ways to prevent childhood cancer.

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities :

The Financial Analyst III will provide financial management responsibilities to a portion of COG's Industry Sponsored Trials (IST) Program portfolio.

The Financial Analyst III will be responsible for providing financial forecasting, budgeting, assist with bidding / proposal, budget development and negotiation process, as well as ensuring the timely invoicing and payments to sites by collaborating with COG's legal / fiscal agent and industry partners.

The Financial Analyst III will help coordinate special projects, which includes but not limited to general development and ongoing refinement of standard operating procedures, process improvement related to financial management of clinical trials, and assist with the development of tools, metrics, and reports to provide critical operational information to COG Leadership.

The Financial Analyst III will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure timely invoicing, disbursing, tracking, and monitoring of industry trials portfolio.

This position will report directly to the COG Associate Director of Industry Sponsored Trials (IST).

This is a remote regular full-time position.

Full salary range for this position : $82,124 to $121,378 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $82,124 to $121,378 (minimum) to $101,751 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE.

The starting salary is determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage bidding / proposal process with applicable vendors on projects with industry support. Collaborate with vendors to ensure final invoicing and complete any necessary close-out forms.
  • Manage budget justifications and fair market value assessments as needed.
  • Review budgets / contracts with industry partners to ensure appropriate financial terms and conditions.
  • Develop applicable payment schedules and flow down applicable terms and conditions from industry supported agreements to vendors and sites to ensure alignment with prime agreements.
  • Maintain IST financial trackers and records. Ensure IST financial folders are updated, organized, and pertinent financial documentations are saved.
  • Request internal and external data reports, review to ensure completeness / accuracy and resolve discrepancies as needed.

Collaborate with COG personnel / departments to obtain custom reports for financial purposes and resolve any financial queries requiring the input of COG personnel.

Develop and maintain existing quarterly financial summary reports. Create and distribute accurate invoices and upload files to ensure timely payments to participating sites.

Review milestones on a monthly basis with legal / fiscal agent to ensure timely invoicing of industry partner.

  • Monitor, track, and submit annual study chair and steering committee member payments.
  • Maintain IST's electronic financial invoice tracking system PIT & ICON. Collaborate with IT staff to improve IST's ability to manage financial matters and report financial data.
  • Serve as liaison and provide support to industry partners and participating sites regarding financial questions on studies with industry support.
  • Participate and / or lead financial calls, prepare agenda items, and provide relevant updates. Address any action items following the call and foster open lines of communication.
  • Access and develop expertise in legal / fiscal agent project and work management platforms to submit financial updates, access financial data, complete assigned tasks, transfer and / or download financial documents and prepare monthly Industry Sponsor Trials financial reporting to the stakeholders.
  • Maintain IST Project portfolio and provide financial management support by overseeing industry funds, prepare financial reports with accurate in-depth analysis, research problems, reconcile discrepancies, track outstanding action items, and compose correspondence.
  • Analyze, present, and clearly communicate financial information and reports in an accurate and timely manner. Provide regular finance and budget reporting and make any necessary strategic and operational recommendations.
  • Monitor and forecast industry financials to assure proper fiscal management. Edit and redistribute financial documents and proposals, track project status.

Provide support through execution and review revenue, expense allocations, and receivables on an ongoing basis and update agreement records as needed.

Maintain financial reports to actively monitor receivable and disbursement of internal and external invoices per contract and approved budgets.

Assist legal / fiscal agent in following up on outstanding financial payments that exceed payment terms within the contract.

  • Conduct comprehensive financial reconciliation for projects with industry support, collaborate with legal / fiscal agent on reconciliation queries and ensure timely account closure.
  • Collaborate with all levels of management, legal / fiscal agent, and personnel to work cross-functionally to ensure accurate and timely invoicing, payments, reconciliation, project close-out, and provide guidance on the clinical trial finance activities.
  • Provide input and recommendations on the development of budget and payment terms (including review of protocols and meeting with applicable stakeholders), internal budget approval and negotiation process during pre-award phase to resolve budget development issues to ensure executed contract payment terms are manageable and studies align with post award financial management.
  • Collaborate with legal / fiscal agent to ensure budgets and allocation calculations are reflected in the financial system according to the approved budget and terms.
  • Set up detailed budgets, cost allocations, and reporting upon executed work order for IST post award managements.
  • Monitor all contract related updates, not limited to amendments, enrollment closures, and completion of studies that have financial impact.
  • Maintain, create and / or optimize metrics, tools, and reports to provide critical financial information and assess current internal processes efficiency and provide recommendation to streamline or establish efficient processes.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external leaders and stakeholders, with a strong focus on customer service and continuous quality improvement and assist in executing process changes and overseeing to completion.
  • Develops, refine, and maintain standard operating procedures and process improvement related to COG's financial management of clinical trials.
  • Support the COG Associate Director of Industry Sponsored Trials (IST) to ensure that the IST Departments financial areas of responsibility are handled and optimized.
  • Provide coverage for COG Financial Analyst III, IST.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of accounting, budget or financial experience, including :
  • Experience in financial planning, reporting, and analysis; using knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field, or you can substitute with 4 additional years of related experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience with Industry funding, National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other federal funding.
  • Ability to gather, organize, and perform financial analysis assignments with limited supervision.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and common desktop / web applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize projects with short deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be an effective team player with ability to relate well with others.
  • Ability to be creative, resourceful, reliable, trustworthy, and discrete.
