Position Summary / Purpose of Position : The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Associate Director of Finance and Business Services.

Reporting to the Director, the position manages all aspects of sponsored research administration, including all pre- and post-award activities, non-sponsored accounts, and business services for the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.

The Associate Director supervises a team of two Managers, and four coordinators.

Bachelors degree.

Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in administrative, financial and / or managerial work .
  • Demonstrated experience with proposal preparation, review and submission.
  • A minimum of (4) years of direct supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of contract and grant administration.
  • Knowledge of higher education business policies and procedures.
  • Detail-oriented with superior organizational, interpersonal, communication, and oral and written presentation skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and adapt to ambiguous situations, develop plans, and ensure successful and efficient implementation.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently, and with a team, on complex projects and demonstrate competency, diplomacy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to analyze, create, and optimize processes and procedures when necessary.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to work and problem solve in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, prioritizing tasks, thinking proactively, and using good judgment and experience to make decisions and maintain deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively and build strong working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and complex environment.
  • Ability to display professionalism in all communications with university stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Possess enthusiasm and a positive approach to work, diplomatic in working with people with competing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and applications key to business operations.

Preferences : Preferences :

  • Experience working in an academic research environment.
  • Familiarity with Kuali Research, BA3 / BA4, PHR, KFS and / or similar systems.
