Guest School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems.

Guest School Nurses will help fill in when permanent School nurses are absent or when temporary health needs arise within our distrcit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Standard I : Nursing Process* Uses a systematic approach to problem solving in nursing practice* Follow nursing careplans in place for students with significant health problems* Assess student health needs, recommend appropriate action and monitor communicable diseases and other illness.

Involvement in CPS referrals in conjunction with counselors, administration and other staff. Nursing evaluation is required in all case involving physical injury* Initiate communication to school nurses to provide resources to help with individual students' health issues if the need arises.

Standard II : Program Management* May conduct screening programs for vision, hearing and scoliosis.* May consult with students, parents and staff regarding health needs and services.

May act as liaison between home, school and community resources regarding health issues.* Maintain standard health room procedures with cooperation of Health services assistants, office staff and Principal for day-to-day health room management including medication administration, first aid, illness procedures, BECCA and attendance issues.

Standard III : Professional Responsibilities* Identifies, delineates and clarifies the nursing role, promotes quality of care, pursues continued professional enhancement, and demonstrates professional conduct.

• Maintains current First Aid / CPR / AED certification.* Maintains current nursing licensure for WA state* Serves as a resource to staff, students, and / or parents concerning health issues.
• Maintains confidentiality within legal, regulatory, and ethical parameters of Health and Education.Standard IV : Health Education* Assists students, families and the school community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education.
• Provide Health counseling and information on chronic illness, nutrition, disease prevention and positive lifestyle.The preceding list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.Graduate of a nursing programCurrent Washington State LPN or RN LicensePreferred Bachelor of Science in NursingPreferred Washington State Educational Staff Associates School Nurse CertificateADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS : Work scheduled hours on a consistent basisPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Experience in school nursing or health educationCONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT : Criminal background clearanceKNOWLEDGE OF : Current trends and practices in nursingInstructional theory and its applicationTechniques to motivate students minimize time spent away from classSchool board policies and proceduresABILITY TO : Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
