SPACE SYSTEMS

Rocket Lab’s Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab : from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more.

Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER II / SR. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER

Based at Rocket Lab’s site in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Industrial Engineers will evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify those needing improvement.

In this role you will manage production schedules and coordinate services to maximize productivity. Additionally, you will improve the efficiency of each production process, evaluate employees’ tasks and responsibilities, identifying procedures or tools to improve productivity.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO :

  • Perform initial Value Stream Mapping Exercises, Method of Manufacture plans, cell design, etc.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process in your area using lean tools and techniques such as 5S.
  • Collect and analyze work sampling, time study and equipment delay data and draw conclusions about utilization and efficiency.
  • Collect field measurement data and create two-dimensional facility drawings from supplied specifications with AutoCAD.
  • Determine the feasibility of implementing alternative facility design proposals based on cost, time, space and other factors.
  • Organize data in spreadsheets or databases for subsequent analysis and presentation.
  • Identify and document product families based on production, routing, Bill of Material and other pertinent data.
  • Calculate storage and capacity requirements for supporting specified production levels.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments of operator workstations.
  • Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment.
  • Identify manufacturing cost reductions and provide ROI justifications for change.
  • Support LEAN manufacturing techniques and training.
  • Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
  • Use 8D problem solving and statistical methods whenever possible.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS AN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER II :

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering; or other technical degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment and / or industrial engineering role.
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and supporting a production line and / or build area.
  • Experience with CAD systems (such as NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Experience in the application of Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A SR. INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER :

  • Bachelor's degree in operations research, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering; or other technical degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment and / or industrial engineering role.
  • Experience with designing, implementing, and supporting a production line and / or build area.
  • Experience with CAD systems (such as NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Experience in the application of Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE :

  • Advanced engineering degree (Preferably, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace).
  • 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment and / or Industrial Engineering Positions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and convey ideas to groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.
