We are seeking dedicated Wildlife Field Technicians to work as raptor fatality monitors near Limon, Colorado. This position requires a commitment to working 35-40 hours per week A one-year commitment is requested.
The primary responsibility of these positions is to implement a post-construction fatality monitoring program at an operational wind facility.
The program is inclusive of fatality searches and carcass persistence trials, adhering to standardized protocols as trained and keeping detailed data.
The field work begins in late September 2024 and continues through August 2025. Fatality monitoring applicants must be willing to commit to four to five full field days a week, including travel to and from the field location.
Field housing will be provided for technicians throughout the study period anda vehicle will be provided for work related travel and functions of the position.
Your Role :
- Candidates who have previous field experience with birds are preferred.
- Candidates must be able to walk for extend periods of time and be able to effectively handle exposure to weather extremes and interaction with bird and bat carcasses.
- Field technicians may work independently or in small crews and must be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with each other, offsite Tetra Tech supervisors, and site management teams.
- Technicians will be required to follow all wind facility-specific and Tetra Tech safety protocols and will be expected to provide their own suitable footwear and weather appropriate field gear.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology or equivalent degree preferred, though not required.
- Individuals currently seeking degree and / or other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.
- Experience executing transect based research preferred.
- Must be able to identify eagles and other raptors.
- Good bird identification skills for species in the region.
- Prior field experience.
- Must be able to work independently and with others, and interact positively with project managers, clients, and landowners.
- Experience with 4x4 vehicles, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment.
- Must be able to follow instructions from manager and collect precise and thorough data.
- Must be able to work with electronic data collection protocols and data submission timing requirements.
- Must be skilled with communication, have the ability to maintain positive attitude and to accept guidance and constructive criticism.
- Housing stipend for living in Limon Colorado will be provided or travel time to the field site will be compensated for up to 2 hours roundtrip.
- Candidates residing in Limon, CO are preferred.
- The field study site is located near Limon, Colorado.
- Working independently in the field.
- Collection of precise data with electronic tablet.
- A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Physical Demands & Work Environment :
- Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
- Regular walking requirements of approximately 12 miles per day.
Compensation :
Salary commensurate with experience.
Salary Range : $20.00 - $24.50 per hour
Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role;
skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
