Part-Time Construction Management Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Construction Management. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

This position is a pool position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a pool of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College.

Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Teach lecture / lab classes as assigned from the Construction Management Curriculum. Particularly Fundamentals of Construction Management ( MGMT 450) and Project Management Site Exploration ( MGMT 680SD)
  • Create lesson plans, facilitate effective instruction, and assess student learning
  • Participate in the development and / or selection of course materials, equipment, and technology that will enhance project management offerings of the department
  • Participate, on an ongoing basis, in the development, assessment, and analysis of student learning outcomes in construction project management
  • Participate in professional development to maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies and pedagogies
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional
  • Work evenings as needed

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Possession of any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent
  • Residential and commercial experience related to construction management coordination and job site experience
  • Active network involvement within the construction management industry community
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Subject matter preparation :

  • Successful experience in construction management and successful teaching experience or ability to teach
  • Current knowledge of residential and commercial construction management and job site experience

Evidence of outstanding ability as a teacher :

  • An understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Acceptance of the division’s commitment to established academic standards
  • Knowledge of current theories and teaching methods, especially in a culturally diverse student population
  • The ability to support diverse students ensuring equity through their educational experience
  • The ability to utilize technology to facilitate effective teaching and learning in an online and hybrid classroom environment
  • The ability to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skills
  • The ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
  • The ability to develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing student’s achievement of these outcomes
  • The ability to organize and teach both theoretical and practical applications of the subject-matter in ways appropriate to students’ abilities
