Wyant College of Optical Sciences invites candidates to apply for an opening as Postdoctoral Research Associate I. The group specializes in advanced optical systems, from building small instruments to fabrication of large mirrors and assemblies (up to m) for astronomy and aerospace applications.
Current research interests include a laser communication instrument, large innovative mirror systems for ground and space applications, precision wavefront sensing and control, and optical metrology.
In the lab, the successful candidate will advance optical metrology and wavefront sensing and control capabilities for large telescope optics and systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform optical metrology for meter-class optical mirrors and systems.
- Design, plan, and conduct research for wavefront sensing and active / adaptive optics.
- Integration and testing of wavefront sensing capabilities with meter-class optics.
- Contribute and participate in the authorship of research publications and presentations.
- Collect, analyze, and graph data; conclude research projects in a timely manner; write reports and manuscripts.

- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Ability to work collegially and effectively as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Optical Sciences, Astronomy, Physics, Engineering or related field upon hire.
- Demonstrated experience with optical metrology or wavefront sensing and control.
- Demonstrated experience with scientific programming (MATLAB, Python, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience using interferometers and other instruments for optical testing
- Demonstrated experience in : optical software for design and analysis of optical systems;working with active / adaptive optics for astronomical telescope systems;
building motion control systems; drafting detailed written procedures.
