The Senior WebSphere Administrator position is part of the Acquisition and Property Management (APM) Veteran Canteen Services (VCS) Point of Sale (POS) team within the Acquisition and Property Management (APM) portfolio in support of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Consolidated Corporate Support Services (CCSS) program.
Within the Acquisition and Property Management (APM) Product Line, VCS POS represents two of the three primary VCS systems and back-end components that drive that the only revenue-generated system at VA’s United Stated (US) facilities.
Supporting the entirety of the on-campus restaurants / food services, as well as the on-site retail stores and related vending services, VCS POS encompass and supports all of the cash register-based transactions (tills) at these locations, all the reporting requirements at all levels of the organization that support these monetary transactions, all the required interfaces to / from the other systems and sub-systems in support of VCS operations, and all of the supporting financial transactions, accounting, and related reporting and system interfaces.
The server-side VCS POS system utilizes a server-side version of Bean Store, Java, IBM WebSphere, and IBM Messaging Queue (MQ) to pass data between servers and systems.
VCS POS is managed in a two-tier configuration, both centralized and at the store level (i.e., Canteen Chiefs use). VCS POS has an installed user base of over 200 Canteen locations nationwide, with over 1,000 end-user devices currently in use.
Duties :
- Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application software.
- Conducts product-level and code-level analysis, and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of VA legacy and modernization tools and systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting.
End product may be special use, customized, or COTS / GOTS software.
Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls;
prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs.
- Ensures software standards are met.
- Exercise care and quality in delivering products.
- Develop and implement automated tests to ensure products function as designed.
- Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with client objectives.
