Human Resources Specialist

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position provides professional human resources support and coordination in core areas of employee-labor relations, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, employee training and development, and project management.
In conjunction with JHHS Human Resources, this role supports the implementation and management of human resources programs and initiatives and resolves human resources-related issues at the department level.
This position serves as a liaison between the department and JHHS Human Resources.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Employee Labor Relations :
Serves as a resource and support for Human Resources regarding employee relations issues, policy interpretation, and grievances.
Knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices is required, as well as knowledge of Joint Commission HR standards and HR and payroll processes, including career services, compensation, benefits, pension, employee labor relations, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, training and development, record keeping, and compliance.
A working knowledge of applicable Federal and State labor and employment laws and regulations is necessary. Disseminates information and coordinates communication to staff and management about policies and programs such as workplace violence, sexual harassment, and affirmative action.
Serves as either the first point of contact or liaison to Human Resources for employee relations issues and partners with JHHS Human Resources to resolve issues or formal grievances.
Conducts exit interviews, analyzes trends, and recommends appropriate actions, plans, and / or programs to Human Resources.
Training and Employee Development :
Partners with the Training Department and JHHS Human Resources ODT to deliver departmental training and employee development initiatives.
Coordinates training opportunities and facilitates departmental scheduling / coverage to enable employee attendance at training and development sessions.
Acts as the departmental Service Excellence representative.
Administration and Special Projects :
Participates in Human Resource team projects to effectively integrate and develop HR processes, programs, and practices into business operations.
Represents the department on human resources-related committees and organization-wide human resources initiatives. Maintains department reports and supports Human Resources through IT applications such as the HR Acuity program.
Participates in grievances as needed, including preparation, communication, and scheduling.
Education :
Requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration / human resources or a related discipline. Applicable work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
PHR / SPHR Certification is helpful.
Work Experience :
At least 5 years of human resource experience, with three years of human resources generalist experience preferred. Experience in a healthcare / customer-intensive environment is preferred.
