Summary :

Thecompetent Nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practicesindependently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspectsof a situation.

Provides routine and complex care, with the abilityto on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the abilityto cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing.

Makesappropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as ameans to help manage the clinicalsituation.

Responsibilities :

  • Meets expectationsof the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leaderof Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Consistent with theANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing careutilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis,planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional,cultural, and social needs of patient and families in accordancewith their level of practice
  • Using the appropriateprotocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors forside-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and caregiven
  • Assess learning needs and provides education topatients, family members and / or care givers; identify issues andresources

  • Anticipates and plans foradmission / discharge / transfer needs to facilitate patient flow
  • Utilizes appropriate systems of communication and tools tofacilitate the discharge process
  • Coaches on tools andtechniques for checking, cross checking and validating orders toensure accuracy.

Standard III. UnitOperations

  • Plans, directs, and evaluates the overallnursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit during anassigned shift
  • Demonstrates good stewardship in properuse and maintenance of equipment and Supplies
  • Assessesdepartmental staffing needs; actively participates in resourcingefforts.
  • Educates and trains others on theoperations, ethics, and regulations within theindustry.

  • Incorporates patientsafety practices / guidelines to promote a safe environment resultingin positive patient outcomes

Health Information Documentation

  • Transcribes verbal orders; explains techniques for ensuring theiraccuracy

Medical Equipment

  • Describes experience with basic medical equipment used in own unitor facility
  • Uses standard diagnostic tools andtechniques to resolves common equipment problems
  • Educates patients about the appropriate use of home medicalequipment
  • Ensures that all equipment and relatedsupplies are in proper working order prior to use to ensure patientsafety
  • Inspects, troubleshoots and evaluates incomingequipment

Medical Order Processing

  • Shares experiences with processing medical orders for one or moregroups of patients or conditions
  • Describes functionsand features of the system used to enter, validate, update andforward medical orders
  • Discusses common errors, theirsources and procedures for correcting
  • Explainsconsiderations for entering and following standing orders
  • Differentiates between standing orders and preprinted ordersand considerations for each

Patient Chart Readingand Interpretation

  • Describes experiences in readingand interpreting patient charts for patients on unit and under owncare
  • Reviews patients’ charts for completion andaccuracy; identifies and alerts to mistakes or omissions
  • Recognizes unexpected readings and alerts nursing or medicalstaff
  • Relates examples of mis-readings ormisinterpretations and lessons learned
  • Reviews,discusses and validates own interpretation withothers

Patient Safety

  • Sharesexperiences with ensuring safety for one or more patient groups orsettings
  • Explains key features of safety guidelinesand procedures for those groups and settings
  • Listensand responds to safety inquiries from patients and familymembers
  • Recognizes and addresses physiological andpsychological signs of problems
  • Describesconsiderations for patients who can cause to harm to self, versusharm to others
  • Utilizes appropriate systems todocument misses and near misses, participates in immediateinvestigating, analysis and reporting inreal-time.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor ofScience Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • 1year of experience in the related nursing specialtypreferred.
  • BLSrequired.
  • RN License in state ofemployment or compact.
