Overview :

The Department of Biomedical Science at Quinnipiac University (QU) is excited to invite enthusiastic applicants for full-time, 12-month, open rank faculty with administrative responsibility as the Director of Cardiovascular Perfusion Program.

The position will begin in late August 2024 with faculty rank and line (tenure, tenure-track, or clinical) commensurate with credential and experience.

Responsibilities include leading and teaching the Master of Health Science in Cardiovascular Perfusion program for ongoing quality improvement, ensuring continuous accreditation for the program.

Individuals in this position must also support QU and School of Health Sciences (SHS) missions, visions, core values, and strategic plans initiatives and actions, support inclusive excellence and interprofessional education, perform service responsibilities.

Tenure track or tenured appointment is required to maintain scholarly activities. This position reports to the Chair, Department of Biomedical Sciences, who reports to the Dean, School of Health Sciences.

Responsibilities : Accreditation

Accreditation

  • Maintain continuous accreditation status from Accreditation Committee for Perfusion Education (AC-PE) for the program;
  • Develop, validate, evaluate and review program learning objectives;
  • Collect and analyze data for AC-PE required reports;
  • Plan and update curriculum and program as indicated by program evaluation data and changes in industry standards and practice;
  • Review and update program assessment and evaluation plan, conduct scheduled evaluation activities and analyze data for trends;
  • Continue to possess knowledge of the latest accreditation standards and guidelines

Program Leadership

  • Implement SHS strategic plan goals to support and strengthen the program through action plan development and program review policies compliance;
  • Schedule and evaluates program courses with department chair and the dean’s office staff;
  • Maintain and secure lab equipment, and ensure user safety compliance;
  • Coordinate, instruct and mentor students to use lab equipment properly;
  • Perform student recruitment, selection, and orientation and retention, including interview applicants;
  • Support students to American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) examination preparation;
  • Counsel and prepare students for job interview skills and ABCP certification examination preparation;
  • Counsel and support academically and clinically underperformed students;
  • Recruit, retain, and evaluation full-time and part-time instructors for the program;
  • Prepare program budget proposal;
  • Be the liaison between the University and the medical directors;
  • Prepare and review academic catalog, brochures, or other promotional and marketing materials related to the program;
  • Maintains student records of program admission, progression and completion in a secure on-campus or virtual locations comply with QU and government policies;
  • Maintain records of student evaluations, course syllabi and other appropriate program materials for accreditation and government compliance.
  • Perform regular and consistent professional communications with students, program faculty, Department Chair and SHS Dean;
  • Serve as an advocate for students, faculty and the program;
  • Perform external grant application as needed.

Clinical Coordination

  • Coordinate program clinical courses;
  • Create and maintain clinical site partnerships;
  • Prepares and maintains student clinical rotation schedules with affiliated hospitals;
  • Evaluate student clinical progress at affiliated sites;
  • Evaluate clinical faculty at affiliated sites;
  • Evaluate and counsel students’ clinical performance;
  • Provide recommendations for students to prospective employers.

Faculty Role : Faculty role of this position must meet the teaching, student advising, service, and scholarship (if applicable) expectations and workload as described by the School of Health Sciences Faculty Handbook, including, but not limited to :

  • Teaching and Student Advising
  • Teaches graduate and / or undergraduate courses assigned by the department chairs and dean;
  • Provides academic advising for students;
  • Services
  • Perform service at program, department, school, university, and disciplinary professional level;
  • Scholarly Activities (for tenure track or tenured appointment only)
  • Maintain and implement research agenda;
  • Apply external grants for scholarly activities.
  • Professional Development
  • Must perform professional development to maintain the valid Certified Clinical Perfusionists (CCP) status, which
  • are required to recertify every year by performing a minimum of 40 clinical activities annually. Of the 40 clinical activities, a minimum of 25 activities must be documented as Primary Clinical Perfusion Activities (PCPA).
  • During each three-year reporting period, every CCP must earn 45 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Education Requirements :

Earned degree at an equivalent level to the Master of Health Science in Cardiovascular Perfusion program

Qualifications :

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience as a perfusionist; and
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an instructor in an accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion educational program or experience in Cardiovascular Perfusion instructional methodology, curriculum design, program planning and counseling; and
  • Must hold valid American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) certification as a perfusionist; and
  • Possess knowledge of the latest Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Perfusion.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Successful experience in leading Cardiovascular Perfusion education program for AC-PE accreditation;
  • Evaluator experience for AC-PE accreditation
  • Experience in teaching graduate students.
