The Advanced Manufacturing / Quality Engineer - New Product Development is responsible for the design for manufacturability aspects of New Product in all stages of the New Product Development process.
This position will focus on implementation of new products by ensuring designs that can be consistently sourced and manufactured to ensure sustained, repeatable manufacturing resulting in quality product for the life of the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Engage concurrently with R&D Engineering counterparts during early phases of product development to achieve product designs capable of manufacturing.
- Ensure product quality targets with a strong understanding of customer specific requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong understanding of approval lab testing and manufacturers requirements dictated by 3 rd party approval bodies (UL, FM, LPCB, etc.)
- Analyze components and assemblies for new products designs across the Viking portfolios for best method of manufacture.
- Complete Make v. Buy activity for new product projects based on early product concepts. Provide estimates for business cost justifications and make recommendations to Manufacturing Engineering team for proposed production processes.
- Investigate new manufacturing processes that could be utilized to continuously improve the manufacture of Viking products.
- Evaluate and estimate production time, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Ensure effective GD&T datum dimensioning to communicate key information for functionality, manufacturing and quality inspection, with an emphasis on datum structures and realistic tolerancing.
- Validate tolerance stack-ups.
- Collaborate with Product Engineers to develop and maintain DFMEA throughout product lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain quality process documentation, including Process Flow diagrams, PFMEA's, Control Plans, Standard Work Instructions and Set-up sheets.
- Create and revise equipment, tooling, and gage drawings as needed.
- Work closely with Supplier Quality and Purchasing during launch phase to ensure Viking and suppliers are in sync with the launch.
- May require travel to international and domestic suppliers as needed.
- Drive resolution for quality issues using appropriate problem solving tools (ie - 8D, Kepner-Tregoe, Fishbones, etc.)
- Manage product VPD tasks and Engineering Change (EC's) implementation as they occur.
- Assists with instruction and training of employees to achieve company goals.
- Provide regular report-outs to Leadership in Manufacturing Engineering and Quality.
- Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor's of Science in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
- High level of analytical ability. Solid problem solving skills required.
- 7-10 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, Automation, Robotics, cellular assembly; CAD tools, Materials, and LEAN manufacturing concepts.
- Demonstrated strong project management, collaboration, communication and leadership skills.
- Experienced with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Strong in SolidWorks and Autocad
