This position will primarily be located at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in the inpatient setting, including the ED.
This position has the potential to work a hybrid schedule, with occasional coverage at other hospitals (Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Scripps Green Hospital, Scripps Mercy Hospital Hillcrest, and Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista).
The Clinical Social Worker for Palliative Care is responsible for psychosocial support provided to patients receiving palliative care services.
The Palliative Care Social Worker will play a prominent role in assisting patients in clarifying their goals of care, while simultaneously supporting family members and significant others when their goals are not aligned with the patient’s.
The Palliative Care Social Worker considers cultural, religious, and psychosocial domains for the purposes of developing and implementing appropriate treatment plans.
- Educates staff and the community on all aspects of palliative care and the services provided.
- Facilitates and organizes family meetings, works with anticipatory grief and challenging family dynamics, and understands placement options and appropriate social, financial, and legal services.
- Identifies community resources and assists patients and their families in connecting to and navigating these resources.
Position Pay Range : $39.34-$58.34 / hour

Please also note this range is applicable for employees who reside in California only. A geographical pay differential may be applied for remote employees who reside out of state.

Required Qualifications :
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) from an accredited University / College
- BLS American Heart Association
- Must be able to display good working relationships with patients, families, medical and nursing personnel, and all others employed at the hospital
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bilingual / Spanish highly preferred
- At least two (2) years of post-MSW experience. Palliative or hospice care experience is highly preferred
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary team
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Social Worker in Oncology, Palliative Care or Hospice
- LCSW (Licensed by the State of CA Behavioral Science Examiners Board)
