Position Summary :
With oversight and direction from the Executive Director, Donald Guthrie Foundation, the Medical Librarian develops and delivers collections and services to meet the information needs of the Guthrie staff.
Provides research services and instruction. Oversees, organizes, and maintains the library collections. Promotes and continually improves library services and collections.
The medical librarian also assists with projects to increase the visibility of Guthrie in the internal and external research and clinical communities.
Education / Experience
Master's degreein library or information sciencefrom a program accredited by the AmericanLibrary Association. PhD preferred.
Experience :
Oneyear of experience working in a healthsciences or hospitalenvironment preferred. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals is preferred.
Essential Functions :
Acquire and maintain a collection of online information resources supporting Guthrie’s patient care, education, and research missions.
Identify quality resources to meet information needs. Ensure compliance with IT requirements and with license terms. Procure resources, renew subscriptions, and negotiate licenses and agreements.
Ensure users are aware of and can access information resources. Implement a discovery tool(s) that enables finding and linking to content.
Maintain information and links to library resources on the Guthrie internal site. Work with IT and product vendors to establish access.
Troubleshoot and resolve access problems.
- Supervise coverage and time management of library staff.
- Maintain productive relationships with Guthrie staff and departments. Communicate regularly to ensure awareness of library services and identify information needs.
Respond to employee requests for information or assistance with accessing and managing information. Perform literature searches.
Assists with publishing the Guthrie Journal, upload and maintain in various web-based platforms including the metadata registry system.
Communicate highlights of Guthrie publications by providing metrics to demonstrate research impact.
Design and deliver training to residents and other clinical staff on library resources and information-seeking skills while maintaining the Guthrie Library and Journal webpages.
Attend and support the GME journal club activities for each residency.
Provide articles and books not available through the library’s collection. Maintain memberships in interlibrary loan consortia and / or accounts with other service(s).
Process employees’ orders. Ensure compliance with federal copyright laws and regulations.
- Work with faculty and researchers to enhance the visibility of Guthrie research in the internal and external research and clinical communities
- Collect and analyze data on utilization of services and e-resources for evaluation and planning. Implement improvements to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Cultivate subject knowledge for providing effective consultations, reference assistance, and instruction; maintain connections with the medical library community and stay abreast of trends and current practices in relevant areas of information management
