About the job Estimator Trainee
Responsibilities
Producing cost estimates and proposals for structural steel bid projects and cost estimates for change orders on awarded projects.
Develop, implement, participate in and monitor a plan for completing a material and labor take-off from structural and architectural design drawings.
Take responsibility for complex projects and routinely functions as the estimate team leader.
Review and verify completeness and distribute project drawings and specifications to estimators assigned to the project.
Maintains and manages well-developed subcontractor / supplier relationships.
Obtain pricing for specialty items not contained in the estimating software database.
Generate estimate summaries and cost recap sheets in Excel.
Develop preliminary connection design based upon member capacities and loads provided.
Work with the Production Department to review and update estimating standards.
Work overtime when required to make required bid dates.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a transferable technical field.
3 + years of related experience in steel industry.
Familiar with steel fabrication processes and techniques and advanced knowledge of construction elements. (welding and constructability)
Able to read, analyze and interpret complex design documents and specifications.
Ability to manage time well and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Works well with a team
Experience with Excel and preliminary connection design.
