Job Description

The Utah Department of Corrections is looking to hire a licensed Psychologist to provide psychological services to the inmates in the Central Utah Correctional Facility.

You will provide psychological services to our sex offender inmates, participate in the delivering of psychological services for the prison system, and participate as a member of the clinical treatment teams providing recommendations for inmate treatment and related activities. Principle Duties

  • You will be responsible for providing services to Utah Department of Corrections inmates with convictions for sexual offenses.
  • Performance of comprehensive psychosexual evaluations, as well as other relevant psychological evaluations, which will be the primary responsibility.

These may include intellectual, cognitive, neuropsychological screening, personality testing, psychiatric symptom checklists, sexual risk instruments and other testing measures as needed.

  • Individual and group psychotherapy with inmates remains a possibility, as desired by the psychologist; opportunities for supervising student interns are also available.
  • Some evaluations may be conducted at the Davis County Jail as needed.
  • Consulting with other institutional staff regarding clinical and correctional management issues. This may include

being a member of multidisciplinary treatment teams and attending treatment team meetings on a regular basis.

Ideal Candidate

The best candidate for this position is someone who :

  • Has at least 2 year of experience providing treatment to clients.
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D) in Psychology from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).
  • Current Utah license as a Psychologist.
  • Psychologist will adhere to all appropriate standards of practice as outlined by the American Psychological Association, State Licensing Board, Utah Department of Corrections and the Board of Pardons.

If no candidate is licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Utah, this position may be filled with a Psychological Assistant II.

To qualify for the Psychological Assistant II position you must have a PhD or Psy.D and per R156-61-601(3) Individuals must receive their Psychology Resident License from DOPL within 45 days of the individual's doctoral degree posting.

This job title requires a license as a Psychologist or Certified Psychology Resident per Utah Code Annotated (UCA) 58-61-301.

Example of Duties

  • Develops treatment plans to help clients mobilize inner capacities and resources to improve social functioning.
  • Documents client / patient progress and revises treatment plans as required; completes administrative paperwork.
  • Discuss results, findings and / or recommendations with appropriate parties.
  • Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate guidance, and / or facilitates decisions.
  • Consults with others to discuss treatment plans, new or unusual situations, findings, options, and recommendations on client / patient cases.
  • Supervises subordinate personnel including : hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Selects, administers, interprets psychological tests and risk instruments commensurate with the referral question..

  • supervise others by assigning / directing work; conducting employee evaluations, staff training and development, taking appropriate disciplinary / corrective actions, making hiring / termination recommendations, etc.
  • information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effectiveness
  • speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally

  • Licensed to practice psychology in Utah
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending;

carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.

  • This position is NOT public safety certified and does not require peace officer status or certification.
