Position Summary
The Social Services Coordinator is responsible for all food preparation, Gift-in-Kind (GIK) food pick-ups, oversight of all homeless community meals, and food pantry program.
Essential Functions
- Oversee kitchen and pantry operations and cleanliness at all times.
- Responsible for all GIK donation pick-ups from local donors.
- Responsible for planning and cooking weekly menu for community meals, corps activities, and special events.
- Organization of kitchen supplies, maintenance, and inventory in kitchen, pantry and surrounding areas (dining hall).
- Have general oversight in kitchen and dining hall for all seasonal activities including Thanksgiving and Christmas, etc.
- Provide oversight of the food pantry program in accordance with USDA, Food Bank, and Salvation Army guidelines. This includes maintaining and supplying the food supply, overseeing the preparation of food boxes / bags, hot meals, and purchasing and / or ordering food when necessary.
- Oversee kitchen and social service food service volunteers, coordinating coverage with Corps leadership and staff.
- Food Handler's certification must be obtained within 30-days of employment.
- Keep statistics of meals and ensure data is communicated to administrative assistant weekly and monthly.
- Perform multiple tasks as assigned.
- Must possess a valid California Driver's License and be able to operate a vehicle for food pick-ups.
- Must have a working knowledge of food preparation, cleaning, and food safety regulations.
Working Conditions
This position involves operating kitchen appliances, packing food bags, and sorting food and other items. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes in a continuous basis.
Must have ability to grasp, push, and pull objects and reach overhead. Must have ability to lift 30 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience and / or demonstrated aptitude for successful performance in human services.
- High School or General Education Diploma.
- Ability to work effectively with everyone in a nondiscriminatory manner, including program participants who may display a wide range of unusual behaviors.
- Willingness to work in an alcohol and drug free environment and to take alcohol and drug tests when requested.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Must have experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and / or those in need and understand basic case management principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communication. Have basic computer skills with ability to use Word and Excel.
- Must be compassionate yet be willing to ensure compliance with program policies and rules.

High School or Equivalent (required)
Experience
Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and / or those in need and understand basic case management principles (required).
Experience and / or demonstrated aptitude for successful performance in human services (required).
Licenses & Certifications
Food Handler's Card (required). Driver's License (required).
