Software Engineer

About Us :

Perlman Clinic is a growing primary and urgent care provider with many locations in sunny San Diego, California. We’re looking for a software engineer to join our team building PocketDoc a telemedicine and online scheduling platform for multiple different healthcare providers.

This position is remote.

We’re looking to hire a talented and experienced software engineer to help grow our small team and deliver fantastic tools to our patients and providers.

You’ll be working directly with stakeholders to define and build products that have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our patients.

You will also have the opportunity to help refactor existing parts of our codebase as we move towards automating more and more of our processes.

What you’ll be doing :

• Help improve patient access to timely healthcare using PocketDoc. We’re constantly researching new ways we can improve the care our Providers can give patients directly from the app.
• Drive adoption of accessible online scheduling allowing patients to schedule on their own without having to pick up the telephone.
• Convert design mocks into fully functional responsive front-ends.
• Write server side code that integrates with electronic medical records systems (EMRs).
• Improve our architecture to support new business lines and B2B clients.

Who you are :

• You’re looking for a role where you’re spending most of your day programming and solving problems. We have a very light project management system and are focused on actually solving problems, not just writing about them.
• You’re all-in on effective communication and getting to know your peers. We’re focused on building a team that meshes well and brings experiences from all walks of life.
• Professional experience building and shipping software for the web and / or mobile devices. We’re a heavy user of React for our frontends.
• You get excited about working in a well-structured codebase and are ready to bring your previous experiences to the table to make it even better.
• You’re familiar with typed languages of any variety TypeScript, Go, Rust, you name it and are excited to dig deeper and build out strong API backends using Go.

The nitty gritty :

• Our frontends are written using React & Typescript, deployed automatically using GitHub actions. Our mobile app is built on React Native (with Typescript) with automated CodePush deployments through GitHub actions.
• Our backend API is written in Go and hosted in AWS. Data is stored in MongoDB and we use Firebase for some real-time data.
• Twilio and Postmarkapp power our communication channels with Patients. We use WebRTC to power face-to-face video chats between Providers and Patients.
• We integrate directly with EPIC EMR (Electronic Medical Records system) to look up patient information and handle the scheduling internals.
