Job Responsibilities

At Lexington Maintenance, operates herbicide truck to spray areas such as guardrail, curb and gutter, wildflower plots, etc.

Calculates application rates and verify vegetation to know what and how much herbicide to use. Must maintain certification in order to spray herbicides.

Operates backhoe and front-end loader to load and unload material for herbicide truck or to move fallen trees. Operates tandem dump truck to haul materials to and from the job site.

Operates truck to pick up material from vendor and take to job site or stockpile at section shed. Performs preventative maintenance on truck and keep neat.

Maintain record of the same. Drives in a safe and courteous manner. Ensures tarp is in place and that all loose material has been swept from the tailgate of the truck before operation begins.

Flags traffic for protection of workers and motorists. Places signs and cones for traffic control according to the SC Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Works with a shovel, bush axe, chain saw, limb chipper, pole saw and sling blade to clear site areas and right of way by mower / bush hog in clearing site hazards.

Operates medium to heavy equipment during emergencies and hazardous weather events as required. May be required to work extended shifts.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement : A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and / or other departmental-related emergencies.

Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.

Additional Comments

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and / or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
