Position Description
Position Objective :
Licensed electrician who will maintain, repair, replace and install electrical power, communication infrastructure, signal systems, equipment, and lighting in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
Must responsibly handle confidentiality, security and safety protocol associated with varying work environments. Position requires ability to establish and maintain effective working / professional relationships with the public, facility occupants, co-workers and vendors.
Position Functions
Essential Functions :
- Maintains, repairs, replaces and installs electrical power, communication infrastructure, signal systems, equipment and lighting for county facilities.
- Ensures that electrical work is following national electrical safety standards and local regulations.
- Coordinates and observes work of contractors to assure county needs are properly addressed.
- Tests emergency batteries and generators, including checking oil and water levels.
- Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation.
- Completes service requests and records materials that are used on the job.
- Will provide work direction, guidance and training to designated employees.
- Required to participate in On Call for a week at a time on a 24-hour basis. The schedule is on a rotating basis between other maintenance staff as assigned.
- Will help with snow removal.
- Will work in detention facilities, often within inmate cells or adjacent pipe chases. Work within a secure detention perimeter and around inmates requires strict adherence to security protocol.

AdditionalDutiesin support of Essential Functions
- Participates in Main On-Call where general maintenance skills are necessary.
- May develop cost estimates for installation or repairs.
- May review project plans and specifications to advise project managers.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education And / Or Experience Required :
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship and valid journeyman's license required.
- Proficient in the use of test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's installation manuals to complete projects.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements :
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, unassisted. Lift / move a maximum of 80 pounds with assistance.
- Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on telephone and in-person.
Additional Information
Working Environment :
- Work under minimal supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor field environments; travel from site to site; exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
- Work environment is informal; team-oriented, having both routine and variable task with variable pace and pressure.
- Overtime hours may be required to meet operational requirements and project deadlines.
