Technical Writer II
This is a technical role within Product Data Management (PDM) responsible for the product document translation for finished product commercialization and quality initiatives, managing critical product formulation information as it is transferred from the kitchen to the manufacturing facility.
This position adheres to established business and system processes. Team members in this role are also responsible for technical documentation in systems such as the Optiva Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, SharePoint, etc.
working in close collaboration with PDM team members.
Principal Responsibilities
- of time Systematic building of formulas, procedures, and specifications in the Optiva PLM system as required to ensure that products can be manufactured properly and according to specifications and can integrate with SAP & RMS plant floor systems.
- of time Work collaboratively with PDM Manager and Scientists on multiple product commercialization projects, independently manage (or manage with support as needed) all product documentation requirements needed to meet project timelines.
Work closely with manager to adjust priorities and workload as needed to meet commercialization timeline commitments.
Job Complexity / Scope
Possess a strong knowledge of formula formats and terminology. Have a foundational and practical knowledge of the Formula Decision Tree & Quality policies related to formula readiness, business process related to PDM role & dependencies.
Emerging ability to identify issues and gaps and work with manager to propose solutions.
- Provide periodic and timely communication to PDM Manager and PDM Scientist. Manage workload effectively by understanding their own abilities, project priorities and knowing when to highlight concerns or risks and when to for support.
- Manage temporary and or emergency product change documentation to product formulations and incorporate them into the product formulations as required.
- Create and maintain a detailed tracker as required to prioritize work and record metrics for process and personal data quality improvement.
- Must be able to deal with ambiguity, adapt quickly to change and persevere. In addition, the job requires the ability to identify critical path items and risks, and effectively communicate these to the PDM Manager.
Job Specifications (Knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job)
- Minimum education required; BS Degree in a Science based field, Computer Science acceptable
- Years of relevant experience : minimum of years
- Certifications / Licenses / Registrations : Not needed.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, along with strong collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficient at independent planning, prioritization, and execution / implementation.
- Strong computer skills including fluency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and database management. Ability to quickly become proficient in all relevant software systems / applications such as Optiva PLM and SharePoint.
- Technical knowledge base of food principles from lab to plant scale-up with some ability to apply that knowledge to formulations, manufacturing and finished product specifications, desired but not required.
- Knowledge of commercial food manufacturing systems, equipment and thermal processes desired but not required.

Prior OPTIVA systems experience is a huge plus, but if they have worked in a recipe management system, or SAP and that will work for this role
Preferrable at least years of experience in the food science industry, either in Quality or PD - open to the role - they get ppl from diff parts and still applicable.
This is a niche role so open to backgrounds - DATA in the food industry is the top preference!
