About the Job
Reporting to the Talent Acquisition Manager the Talent Acquisition Specialist will perform talent acquisition-related administrative work, supports recruiters and hiring managers, and provides candidates with status updates.
This role functions as a junior recruiter and performs minimum qualification screening. The Talent Acquisition Specialist ensures close collaboration with the hiring manager and other talent acquisition colleagues to enable smooth process handoffs.
Additionally, this role maintains a detailed understanding of jobs and associated requirements across the System related to the relevant talent market.
This position will also serve as a backup to the Background Check Coordinator.
Work environment : Hybrid (1-2 days in the office)
Job Duties
Talent Acquisition Support 55%
- Performs talent acquisition-related administrative work, supports recruiters and hiring managers, and provides candidates with status updates.
- Approves requisitions before posting.
- Supports the priority hire program as needed.
- Functions as a junior recruiter and performs minimum qualification screening for Civil Service and Labor Represented positions.
- Ensures close collaboration with the hiring manager and other talent acquisition colleagues to enable smooth process handoffs
- Maintains a detailed understanding of jobs and associated requirements across the university in relationship to the relevant talent market
- Collaborates with talent acquisition specialists and consultants on position descriptions to ensure understanding of the requirements and equitable sourcing.
Recruits and performs talent acquisition activities such as resume / application screens.
- Establishes and maintains an effective communication process with hiring managers, from the requisition process through the interview process and to the offer and acceptance stage
- Raises complex questions to Talent Acquisition Manager.
- As an individual contributor, role models UMN's dedication to crafting an inclusive work environment and fostering a caring culture
Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (DEI) 15%
- Assists in drafting DEI-focused postings and advertisements
- Represents University at job fairs and other recruitment activities
- Assists in building DEI talent networks internally and externally to the University to find qualified active and passive candidates
- Supports the development of high-impact interview questions that ensure there is no bias
Background Check and Relocation Support 10%
- Support the Background Check Coordinator with the adjudication and management of background checks.
- Supports the background check audit process.
- Backup support for Hiring managers and HR Community to ensure questions are addressed and answered.
- Will answer relocation questions as they arise. Manage the relocation tickets.
Professional Development 10%
- Completes professional development, education, and training activities, consistent with handling the job responsibilities.
- Completes continued learning and development appropriate to work duties and to pursue individual, unit, and institutional success.
- Participates in staff development based on individual needs, including ongoing skills training, DEI development, professional learning, service & scholarly activity, and engagement & well-being
Talent Acquisition Process and Policy 5%
- Maintains a solid understanding of all applicable HR policies and procedures and federal and state laws.
- Ensures process compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and policies
- Makes recommendations to Talent Acquisition Manager for policy and process improvements
Other Duties as Assigned 5%
Will provide interview scheduling as needed.
Qualifications
Required :
BA / BS degree in human resources or a related field and / or a combination of education and experience to equal at least four years.
Preferred :
- Experience with full-cycle recruiting.
- Experience with applicant tracking systems.
- Knowledge of background check processes and relocation support.
- Professional HR certifications (PHR, SHRM, AIRS).
- Higher education or equivalent experience.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range : $55,000 - $60,000; depending on education / qualifications / experience
Time Appointment : 75%-100% Appointment
