The Field Engineer works as troubleshooter and problem solver that connects our constituencies with each other, and the world.

Here are some examples of what the Field Engineer does :

  • Respond to student / staff / faculty work requests for providing network or telephony access by making new network connections, or providing physical
  • Be a technical resource and provide systematic solutions while working with departmental staff and our Service Desk.
  • Partner with students, staff, faculty, facilities, contractors, police officers, and medical personnel to deploy the most useful and practical communication solutions.
  • Balance customer requests for network services, telephone services, and cellular connectivity against your limited work time to achieve the best possible results.

Work Location :

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, engineering, business, or a closely related field.
  • Substitution : Full time, professional-level work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree, up to 4 years.

Intermediate : Education

Education

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, engineering, business, or a closely related field.
  • Substitution : Full time, professional-level work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree, up to 4 years.

Experience :

The successful candidate possesses 1 year experience and working knowledge in areas as such as the following below :

  • Access layer networking protocols for routing and switching.
  • IEEE 802.11 wireless protocols
  • TDM and VoIP telephony
  • Unified Messaging voice mail
  • Copper and Fiber-based cabling infrastructure.

A combination of education and related technical / paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications :

Certification :

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Bicsi fundamentals certification

Experience :

  • 1-2 years' experience working in an enterprise multi-departmental environment.
  • Telecom room physical layer build experience
  • Operational IT experience within a governmental or higher education institution

Conditions of Employment

Most work is performed during normal business hours; however, off hour work may be expected including late nights, early mornings, or weekends.

This position must be flexible in their work hours to meet the needs of the University community.

Must be willing and able to travel between campuses (Denver Campus and Anschutz Medical Campus)

  • Possess an understanding of Cisco voice and enterprise data networking.
  • Working knowledge with standard LAN / WAN / VoIP concepts and procedures

  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with personnel at all levels within the university, as well as outside vendors / contacts.

Anticipated Pay Range :

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as :

Entry-Level Field Engineer has been established as : $57,679 - $62,000.

Field Engineer has been established as $62,768 -$62,964.78.

The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
