POSITION SUMMARY
As the Director of Finance at the San Francisco Public Health Foundation, you will embark on a challenging and rewarding journey, reporting directly to the Executive Director.
In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the administration of all financial and information technology systems, a task that requires not only a profound understanding of fiscal management but also the flexibility and vision to adapt to dynamic environments.
This role is especially critical now, as we have recently transitioned to NetSuite, marking a new era in our financial operations.
Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of critical functions, including the maintenance of fiscal records, budget preparation, the timely delivery of financial reports, and fostering collaborative relationships with key stakeholders like the Treasurer for developing robust accounting strategies.
Furthermore, your role extends to ensuring regulatory compliance, supervising team members, and managing employee benefits, all while ensuring the ongoing maintenance and updating of our IT infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Finance
- Oversees and directs the funds, financial records and reports, accounting, budgets, annual audit, tax return filings, purchasing, capital asset management, donation processing and risk management activities for the organization.
- Directs the finance staff in implementing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate internal accounting controls and services.
- Directs the financial activities of the organization.
- Acts as the custodian of funds, monitors securities, and assets of the organization.
- Responsible for investment of excess cash and restricted reserves.
- Reviews the organization’s financial position and issues monthly financial and operating reports to the Executive Director, board Treasurer and partner projects.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director to timely organize, construct and execute the organization’s fiscal budget.
- Directs, analyzes, and interprets reports of general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on the organization’s policies and operations.
- Works with CPA firm on annual audit, responsible for internal control procedures necessary to obtain clean audit opinion and management report from auditors.
- Reviews contracts and other legal documents prior to execution, obtaining professional legal counsel where necessary.
- Provide necessary financial and accounting guidance and support to each department.
- Responsible for tracking and monthly / quarterly reporting of all grant / program income and expenses.
- Responsible for regulatory compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting deadlines.
- Maintains all organization databases and supervises data entry of donations, receipts, and designations.
- Responsible for coordinating and delivering all audits, tax reports, and other regulatory reporting. Including the annual financial and SEFA audits, 990 year-end tax reports, and other regulatory reporting required by internal and external stakeholders as assigned.
Administration
- Administration of the health, disability and life insurance programs. Including periodic review and bidding of coverages.
- Oversees and strategically manages general liability and directors' and officers' insurance.
- Responsible for staff adherence to Foundation policies and procedures and maintaining the employee handbook.
- Responsible for maintaining bonding for the unemployment account.
- Responsible for filing worker’s compensation claims along with bidding out to different groups for our worker’s compensation insurance.
- Maintain retirement plan.
COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated skills in A / P, A / R, taxes, financial management, data management, FASB regulations.
- Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
- Ability to use latest technological concepts in the business and accounting.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
- Ten years of overall work experience in a finance position, preferably with supervisory experience.
- Three to Five years in the nonprofit sector.
- Five years of senior leadership experience.
- Public accounting experience is preferred.
- A CPA and / or MBA desirable.
