The Office of AIDS (OA) is a division within the California Department of Public Health, Center for Infectious Diseases. OA works collaboratively with state and federal agencies, local health jurisdictions, universities, and community-based organizations to ensure that efforts to combat the HIV / AIDS epidemic are targeted and effective.

Job Description And Duties

Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay.

Those where a Doctoral Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay.

Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by working collaboratively with state and federal agencies, local health jurisdictions, universities, and community-based organizations to ensure efforts to combat the HIV / AIDS epidemic are targeted and effective by leveraging data and technology to advance goals, inform action and accountability, strengthen the science base of our services and expand surveillance systems for evidence-based decision making.

The Research Scientist III (Epi / Bio) plans, organizes, and directs highly developed and complex scientific support to the Surveillance Section and operates as the lead scientific liaison to the Disease Outbreak Intervention and Field Investigation (DOIFI) Unit in the Prevention Branch, by conducting complex analyses to support various HIV surveillance activities, including producing reports for field action, conducting analyses to respond to ad hoc data requests, and contributing to the development and enhancement of all surveillance data products, such as the annual report, disparities report, continuum reports, and dashboard and interactive reporting tools.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II (Epi / Bio), Chief of the Surveillance Section.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed.

Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment.
