Reports to : Director of Process Improvement

Schedule : Part Time Hybrid (2 days in office)

Hours : 20-30 hours per week

THIS ROLE :

As the Process Improvement & Data Engineering Intern at Curtin Maritime, you’ll work closely with our team to support ongoing projects, document processes, and help optimize how we manage and analyze data.

You’ll assist in collecting project information, troubleshooting technical issues, and testing new solutions. This internship is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, learning new technologies, and working on high-impact, real-world projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO :

• Documentation & Project Support :
• Help organize and track project information, ensuring requirements are clear and up-to-date.
• Create and maintain documentation for systems, processes, and workflows.
• Assist in training internal stakeholders on new developments and software functionalities.
• Support project management activities, including maintaining schedules and updating task progress.
• DevOps & Troubleshooting :
• Assist in troubleshooting and testing data processes, ensuring successful interactions between systems and users.
• Contribute to DevOps tasks, such as maintaining sprint documentation, tracking tasks, and supporting automation efforts.
• Data Engineering Assistance :
• Work with data pipelines and assist with simple data analysis, focusing on data quality and integrity.
• Support basic SQL tasks, such as querying, managing data, and helping internal customers access and understand the data.
• Collaborate with the team to support ETL pipelines, ensuring efficient data transformations and integrations.
• Preferred experience in SQL and scripting (e.g., Python, C#) is a plus, as well as knowledge of ETL processes and database management.
• Collaboration & Communication :
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather project details, share updates, and contribute to team meetings.
• Communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders, providing project updates and insights.

WHO YOU ARE :

Certifications and Other Requirements

• Interested in learning about project management, data processes, and technology.
• Have some experience or coursework in SQL, C#, or cloud platforms like Azure.
• Familiarity with ETL processes, data pipelines, and scripting is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and a natural problem-solver.
• Located in the Long Beach, CA area, available for in-person meetings.
• High level of discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
• Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
• Motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks at once.

Physical Aptitudes

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
• Ability to use stairs on a regular basis.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a TWIC and valid Driver’s License if required to drive for work.
