Software Engineer, Strategic API Integrations

Airbyte
San Francisco
$211K-$225K a year
Full-time

is the open-source standard for EL(T). We enable data teams to replicate data from applications, APIs, and databases to data warehouses, lakes, and other destinations.

We believe only an open-source approach can solve the problem of data integration, as it enables us to cover the long tail of integrations while enabling teams to adapt pre-built connectors to their needs.

So far, we've built over 350 connectors and have had 35,000+ companies replicating data with us. We've raised $181M from some of the world's top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, Y Combinator, etc.

and believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome and let our product bring the users, rather than an outbound sales engine with cold calls.

Airbyte is remote friendly, with most of the team still based in Silicon Valley. We’re fully transparent as a company. Our , , , and are open to all.

If you find this role exciting, we encourage you to apply even if you think you don’t meet all requirements.

Opportunity

Airbyte’s open source data movement solution is quickly becoming a best practice for data engineers. To keep up with this demand, we are looking to improve our most important connectors by building a team to focus on their quality, scalability, and performance.

The number of possible data integrations is growing at a faster rate than any single engineering team can support : new APIs, filesystems, and databases are born every day.

To build thousands of high quality data integrations, we need tools that minimize the effort required to build and maintain them.

Airbyte’s team builds the tools needed to produce and maintain high quality connectors with a fraction of the effort. Our tools provide leverage to help our community and engineers build the connectors they need.

As a software engineer on the Strategic API Integrations Team, you will embark on a mission to make the most highly-used connectors on the Airbyte platform the best in the industry.

To do this, you’ll become a domain expert on industry leading APIs like Salesforce, Netsuite, and Google Ads, and design the best possible product experience for those connectors.

This includes maximizing the throughput, ensuring their reliability, and making them intuitive to use. You’ll be expected to design and implement the evolution of the Airbyte Connector Development Kit (CDK) and Platform in order to support best-in-class experiences in the future.

As an engineer in Airbyte, you’ll have a significant influence on the team roadmap and be expected to take ownership of the most important connectors for our customers.

This is a great role for product-minded engineers looking to have a big impact on Airbyte’s business.

This opportunity is for an engineering leader to contribute their deep expertise and experience to large-scale and complex problems.

You’ll drive impact by providing thought leadership and context to the organization, driving alignment across teams to achieve success with company objectives, as well as architecting and contributing to Airbyte’s open source libraries.

What You'll Do

  • Drive projects that make Airbyte the best tool for developing and maintaining API connectors
  • Take Airbyte’s high-volume, high-usage Python connectors to the next level in terms of features, usability, and performance
  • Take Airbyte’s Connector Development Kits (CDKs) to the next level in terms of features, usability, and performance

  • Work with internal tooling teams to shape the future direction of Airbyte’s connector developer experience
  • Guide product decisions with engineering perspective and help shape the Strategic API Integrations team roadmap and product
  • Engage with the open-source community via Github, Slack, or community events
  • Lead cross-team technical initiatives
  • Pioneer the creation of new patterns, tools, and frameworks for the connectors organization
  • Build leverage via engineering : a week-long project this month should be a ten minute task next month
  • Improve engineering processes and documentation
  • Write high-leverage code
  • Mentor engineers

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience building ETL data pipelines or integrations is a big plus
