Job Summary :
Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Cardiologist(s) a registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and / or indirect care of the patient.
Such care will include, but not be limited to, clinical assessment of the patient, preparation and / or supervision of exercise and / or pharmacologic stress tests, assist with patient preparation and / or monitoring during performance of transesophageal atrial pacing or electrocardiographic studies.
All standard nursing practices and principles are used for the care of the cardiology patient, including pharmacology, patient assessment and procedure documentation.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee / Georgia guidelines.
Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients / families / caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change.
Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Annual Erlanger Health System HLC courses

Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills.
Knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations.
Knowledge of current trends and new developments in cardiac nursing
practices, including those areas that require special education.
Must have at least two years of clinical nursing experience.
Preferred :
Emergency Room or Critical Care experience strongly preferred
Cardiology Office Practice experience
Basic computer experience

Required :
Current license to practice nursing in Tennessee
BLS completed prior to going to unit / department and maintained going forward.
ACLS certified (within six months)
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents.
Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

The Cardiology Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in her assigned unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information to identify each patient's requirements relative to his / her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
