About The Position
Job Overview : As a Radiology - Radiation Therapy Technologist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing radiation therapy.
You will work closely with oncologists, radiation therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver targeted radiation treatment to patients with cancer or other diseases.
Your primary responsibility will be to operate radiation therapy equipment, ensure accurate delivery of radiation doses, and provide compassionate care to patients throughout their treatment process.
Key Responsibilities : Patient Preparation : Prepare patients for radiation therapy procedures by explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and ensuring their comfort.
Equipment Operation : Operate radiation therapy equipment, such as linear accelerators, to administer prescribed doses of radiation accurately.
Treatment Planning : Collaborate with radiation oncologists and medical physicists to develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
Safety Protocols : Follow strict safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and yourself from unnecessary exposure to radiation.
Monitoring : Monitor patients during treatment for any adverse reactions and make necessary adjustments to ensure effective and safe delivery of therapy.
Record Keeping : Maintain accurate records of treatment sessions, including doses, patient responses, and any equipment malfunctions.
Patient Care : Provide emotional support and care to patients, addressing their concerns and helping them understand their treatment.
Quality Assurance : Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure equipment is functioning properly and treatments are delivered as prescribed.
Collaboration : Work closely with the oncology team to coordinate care and ensure continuity of treatment.Education : Educate patients and their families about the radiation therapy process, side effects, and post-treatment care.
Qualifications : Education : Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy or a related field.Certification : Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (or equivalent certification).
Experience : Previous experience in radiation therapy is preferred but not required for entry-level positions.Skills : Strong technical skills in operating radiation therapy equipment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Attention to detail and precision in delivering treatments.Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Physical Requirements : Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift and position patients as necessary.Manual dexterity to operate complex equipment.Work Environment : Work in a clinical environment, primarily within a radiation therapy department.
Exposure to radiation, with safety protocols in place to minimize risk.Interaction with patients who may be experiencing emotional and physical distress.
