Summary :

The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinicalsetting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness ofall relevant aspects of a situation.

Provides routine and complexcare, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continuesto develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies ofclinical nursing.

Makes appropriate assignments and delegates toother care providers as a means to help manage the clinicalsituation.

Responsibilities :

  • Meets expectations of theapplicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader ofOthers, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Consistent withthe ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing careutilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis,planning, intervention and evaluation for assignedpatients.
  • Addresses increasingly complexpsychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient andfamilies in accordance with their level ofpractice.
  • Using the appropriate protocol,administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effectsand effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and caregiven.
  • Assess learning needs and provideseducation to patients, family members and / or care givers; identifyissues and resources.

  • Plans, directs, andevaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particularnursing unit during an assignedshift
  • Demonstrates good stewardship in properuse and maintenance of equipment andSupplies
  • Assesses departmental staffing needs;actively participates in resourcing efforts.

Patient Chart Reading andInterpretation

  • Describes experiencesin reading and interpreting patient charts for patients on unit andunder own care
  • Reviews patients’ charts forcompletion and accuracy; identifies and alerts to mistakes oromissions
  • Recognizes unexpected readings andalerts nursing or medical staff
  • Relatesexamples of mis-readings or misinterpretations and lessonslearned
  • Reviews, discusses and validates owninterpretation with others

PatientSafety

  • Shares experiences withensuring safety for one or more patient groups orsettings
  • Explains key features of safetyguidelines and procedures for those groups andsettings

Experience

1 year of experience in the related nursingspecialty preferred

PositionRequirements :

Education / Skills

  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend NewNurses Orientation within the first 30 days ofhire.
  • New hires are precepted by a designatedtrained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements arevalidated through successful completion of the designatedorganizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Department -specificcompetency validation.
  • Completion of allannual competency verification requirements.

Experience

Perinatal RN Residency, or recently practicingin a Perinatal Setting is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications

Currentcertification from NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or oneof the following AWHONN courses : Intermediate FHM, Intermediate FHMInstructor, Advanced FHM Instructor, or Instructor Trainer at thetime of hire for experienced nurses.

If previously uncertified,certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire as theycannot practice independently without it.

For new graduates andexperienced nurses new to the specialty, certification must beobtained within 4 months of hire and maintainedthereafter.

Current STABLE(Post-resuscitation / Pre-transport Stabilization Care of SickInfants) certification from one of the following courses : Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor at the time ofhire for experienced nurses.

If previously uncertified,certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire as theycannot practice independently without it.

For new graduates andexperienced nurses new to the specialty, certification must beobtained within 4 months of hire and maintainedthereafter.

  • Current ACLS certification within30 days of hire for experienced nurses; within 90 days of hire fornew graduates then required to maintain certificationthereafter.
  • Current NRP certification at timeof hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduatesand experienced nurses new to the specialty then required tomaintain certification thereafter.
