POSITION SUMMARY

  • Assesses instructional needs and trainee characteristics; assists in the design, implementation and evaluation of instructional development classes, seminars, workshops and related projects;
  • produces courseware, training packages, workshop management systems and other instructional materials; presents training programs, workshops, classes and seminars;

consults with participants and participant groups on and installs and maintains multimedia technology systems.

As part of the MSU Extension Health and Nutrition Institute (HNI), with support from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Coordinators, District Directors and Institute leadership, the Training Program Developer II is responsible for the development of materials and providing technical support to the nutrition and physical activity (NPA) work team, in support of the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP Community Nutrition Instructors (CNI).

In this role, you will analyze, develop and provide oversight of instructional development classes, seminars, workshops and related projects in support of the NPA work team.

Your work will include research, review and identification of new curricula that meets the needs of Michigan residents. Through this this research, you will create and implement curriculum training to CNIs across the state, including hosting various trainings to provide education on curriculum instruction, and will support onboarding and training needs of new CNI staff.

You will consult with various groups, including departmental staff, vendors, existing CNIs, supervising educators, grant leaders, student workers and peers in other Extension organizations across the county.

Through your interactions, you will stay abreast of current trends and uses for educational programs and multimedia technology systems.

Your work will include evaluation of instructional programs and tools as you prepare documentation, and produce manuals, classroom materials, articles, videos, etc.

and you will manage inventory and ordering for program print materials for all CNIs. You will provide instruction to CNIs on the uses, development, and evaluation of multimedia interactive instruction and other educational programs.

You will also be instrumental in the development, review and updating of materials that will enhance and support the onboarding experience for new staff.

You will provide online and in-person training and support to the CNI staff while providing management of the CNI mentor program.

Although negotiable, there will be space available to work from the Washtenaw County MSU Extension office.

This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from a MSU Extension County office.

The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work-location flexibility.

This is an off dated position funded for 12 months from date of hire with possible extension based upon funding renewal.

Characteristic Duties / Responsibilities

  • Assists in analyzing, developing, and overseeing instructional development classes, seminars, workshops and related projects.
  • Makes presentations, prepares documentation, and consults with educators in order to explain current and projected educational programs and technologies.
  • Prepares documentation for related software, and articles for in-house and external publications.
  • Uses instructional design principles and computer knowledge in order to prepare and produce manuals and classroom materials.
  • Assists in evaluating instructional programs and tools to determine if they meet specifications of instructional design theories and operate to achieve optimal results.
  • Assists in the development of and teaches short courses on the uses, development, and evaluation of multimedia interactive instruction and other educational programs.
  • Consults with faculty, staff, students and others on current trends and uses for educational programs and multimedia technology systems.
  • Arranges demonstrations of educational products through contact with vendors.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Educational Systems development, Instructional Technology Systems, Instructional Science or a related educational programs development area, and / or field related to the area of expertise.
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the design, development, and presentation of instructional programs using software or tools related to the educational programs being conducted.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing and supporting virtual and hybrid events and meetings.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work productively on a team and independently.
  • Knowledge of computer software and usage (e.g., Zoom, Qualtrics, word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, Internet browsers, graphic design and layout, etc.).
  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities and other differences.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
  • Other skills and / or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
