Position Summary

Salary range for this position is : $ 44,568 / yr. - $ 57 , 984 / yr. (depending on experience)

Under the supervision of the Director of Disability Services, the Program Specialist 2, Disability Services (DS) will be responsible for the daily operations of the department and assist the Director of Disability Services with the implementation of accommodations for students with disabilities and serves as the first point of contact for the DS office.

The position provides information and outreach to students, faculty and families and provides resources and awareness for the campus and community.

This is a full-time position scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8 : 00AM to 5 : 00PM.

What you will be working on :

Establish and maintain an approachable, welcoming, and inclusive office environment while greeting students, staff, faculty, and parents visiting the DS office;

answer phones and respond to departmental email.

  • Coordinate services and accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to college instructional programs, services and activities.
  • Send Letters of Accommodations each quarter and send reminders to students to renew their accommodations each quarter.
  • Coordinate test accommodations by arranging for scribes, readers and proctors; collaborate with Testing Center to proctor exams appropriately.
  • Coordinate interpreting services, including scheduling Sign Language interpreters and CART providers, setting up annual purchase contracts, agency agreements, obtaining cost estimates, billing and account reconciliation.
  • Coordinate and train students in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology and software necessary for appropriate accommodations;

stay current on adaptive equipment, assistive technology and software.

  • Coordinate note taking services; solicit and train volunteer note takers; teach / answer any questions on how to use Notetaking Express.
  • Coordinate alternative format; request from publishers, obtain price quotes for conversion, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of furniture and equipment, coordinate placement in classrooms and other campus locations.
  • Research options and obtain price quotes for office supplies, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, furniture, and other accommodation-related goods and services.
  • Advise students on policies, procedures and the rights and responsibilities of the student, instructor, and DS office.
  • Schedule appointments for Director.
  • Communicate and collaborate with appropriate college departments, faculty and staff to coordinate and implement accommodations and related services.
  • Participate in student development, retention and recruitment activities.
  • Assist in monitoring accommodation satisfaction as well as academic and enrollment status of students with disabilities, providing appropriate interventions and outreach to this population.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual statistics and reports; create and maintain student databases for tracking student retention and services provided.
  • Maintain and update Disability Services program materials including forms, handouts, etc.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate student records.
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring department budgets, provide ongoing projections for accommodation costs.
  • Help coordinate and assist with outreach to faculty, staff and students to provide / present information regarding disability services available, awareness, issues, universal design and other disability-related information.
  • Help represent DS Office to college departments / divisions, campus committees, educational partners, community agencies / associations, regional / state organizations and other events.
  • Assist in serving as liaison with state and community agencies, campus groups, faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Stay current with literature and best practices pertaining to accommodations for students with disabilities in post-secondary education.
  • Keep current on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, Universal Design and best practices.
  • Participate in professional organizations and professional development activities (may include travel within Washington state).
  • Provide backup assistance for Student Success Services counter and general reception.
  • Assume assigned duties in Director s absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring as a candidate (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience) :

  • Bachelor s degree in human services, social work or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity with disability regulations including the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with person with disabilities and persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, socio-economic, gender and sexual orientation.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to the needs of the recipient; experience interacting with people with diverse methods of communication.
  • Experience with accessible technology, including software and equipment.
  • Ability to remain professional and provide high quality customer service in difficult situations.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform detail-oriented tasks with a high level of accuracy and consistency.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Word, Excel, Access, Teams, Office 365, and online student management systems such as Starfish and ctcLink.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment while staying within the scope of the job duties and legal guidelines.

Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping;
