Job Summary
Emergency Management Coordinator position is for the Charlotte area market. This position works with a team of Emergency Management professionals to prepare and mitigate potential emergency responses.
This position is multifaceted by leading and being a content expert in training, education, and testing emergency management program aspects.
Responds to emergencies as necessary and supports the overall program of Emergency Management.
Essential Functions
Coordinates Emergency Management activities to maintain constant readiness for emergency management compliance with regulations, standards, and policies including Center of Medicare and Medicaid, The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulations;
serves as an Emergency Management point of contact.
Presents Emergency Management related program information, education, initiatives, and updates to teammates, leadership, and community partners;
provides guidance on prevention, planning, mitigations, response, recovery, and continuity of business.
- Periodically will take Administrator on Call duties for the Atrium Health EM department and organization.
- Assists in developing Emergency Management programs, evaluations, performance improvements, policies, and risk assessments;
educates and provides corrective actions for deficiencies identified during event response, inspections, and assessments.
- Assists in developing policies and procedures; standardizes reports, programs, and processes at the facility level.
- Assists in managing documents, recordkeeping, and sharing information through software programs (i.e., SharePoint).
- Supports stakeholder teammates within assigned facility, market, across Atrium Health, and community; provides corrective actions and solutions for complex issues impacting operations;
supports facilities and teammates regarding emergency response and corrective actions.
- Provides direction, education and support for the incident command system and hospital incident command teams.
- Works with other service lines to accomplish initiatives impacting patient care and teammate safety.
- Implements and oversees projects through project management as directed by leadership.
- Chairs / Co-chairs emergency management meetings, writes meeting minutes, and ensures action items are completed following meetings.
Physical Requirements
Works in an office environment approximately forty percent (40%) of the time, sitting, standing, walking, working with standard office equipment (i.
e., computer, telephone, fax, copier, etc.); remaining 60% is spent in facility or support services setting. Requires walking and standing while conducting surveys and training sessions.
Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds of materials and various types of equipment. Travel to other facilities is required.
Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; may be subject to hazards (i.e. chemicals, mechanical parts, etc.
and atmospheric conditions (i.e. fumes, odors, dusts, mists, etc.); responsible for setting a strong example of safety by working in a safe manner and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE), as appropriate.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Emergency Management, Public Health, Business, Administration, or related discipline preferred.
Basic knowledge : The Joint Commission, CARF, NFPA, NIMS, DHSR, DNV, CMS and HSEEP preferred. Training and Experience :
- Minimum three to five years’ experience in related discipline preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory (including experience of at least one CMS / TJC / DNV survey) and regulatory agency code requirements, and the progressive application of those standards.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Familiarity preferred with State Medical Facilities Licensure Requirements (and DFS-referenced NFPA standards).
- Certification / Licenses : Certified Healthcare Emergency Coordinator (CHEC), Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP);
Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) preferred.
