Outreach Services at Brooklyn Public Library develops innovative programs and partnerships to increase access to library resources.
The department supports responsive services to immigrant communities, older adults, people experiencing homelessness, families impacted by incarceration and veterans.
Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is seeking a Part-Time Outreach Associate supervised by the Community Outreach Supervisor to serve transient and vulnerable populations.
The Outreach Associate will work directly with library patrons who may be experiencing homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, mental illness, barriers to health care and other acute needs.
The Associate will assist in facilitating BPL’s programs and community outreach events.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate workshops and peer support programs with patrons experiencing homelessness or other acute needs
- Connect with community partners to make referrals to community supports
- Liaise and follow-up with relevant government and community based providers to implement appropriate service solutions
- Coordinate with Outreach Services Department and other library departments to connect patrons with library services
- Support program reporting as needed
- Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the library to partner organizations
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- BA degree is required
- Experience in social services and / or community outreach
- Ability to communicate (oral and written) with diverse audiences, patrons and partners
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent listening skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to travel within Brooklyn
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience utilizing trauma-informed approaches working with adults
- A passion for social support and advocacy
- An understanding of an urban public library setting
This is a part-time position, non-union position. The Navigator will work up to 19 hours / week. The compensation range for this position is $24-$25 / hour.
