Summary
Under minimal supervision, facilitates skin and wound care activities at the facility level. Coordinates patient care with clinical nursing and hospital leadership.
Has the authority, responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating wound, ostomy, and continence care throughout the hospital.
Functions as a consultant and provides direct patient care and education to selected patients. Provides for staff development in areas of expertise.
Responsible for product recommendations in areas of expertise.
Maintains records and statistics reflecting role performance; participates in hospital wide committees and projects as indicated.
Participates in call schedule to ensure appropriate WON coverage for the five BHS inpatient facilities, as needed. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION : Graduate of accredited school of nursing for Registered Nurse. Bachelors Degree in any field. Graduate of WOCN-accredited WOC or Enterostomal Therapy Nursing Education Program in the United States for Wound and Ostomy
PREFERRED EDUCATION : Masters Degree from an accredited school. Graduate of Nursing Education Program in the United States for Continence
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE : 1 year current clinical nursing in acute care setting
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : 5 years as a CWOCN
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE : Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse;
Board Certified Wound, Ostomy Nurse (CWON)

REQUIRED COURSES / COMPLETIONS (., CPR) : Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

The RN provides high-quality, safe, cost-effective, total nursing care to all patients. The RN assumes responsibility for overall coordination and integration of patient care based on the nursing process.
The RN directs care according to established standards of safety, risk management, QI, and Infection Control, with the goal being to discharge the patient with an optimum level of care provided.
Assumes responsibility for coordination and planning of patient care within the prescribed medical regime. Administers all medications safely and in a timely manner per hospital policy.
Performs and fulfills all HICS (hospital incident command system) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency and / or disaster.
Responsible for knowing the Hospital’s emergency codes, including the purpose and appropriate action for each, and adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures for each emergency code.
Education :
Required : Graduated from a state approved school of nursing or an accredited school.
Preferred : Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing
Experience :
Preferred : Recent acute care experience.
Certifications :
Required : Currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy;
CPR. AHA BLS, and if applicable by corporate policy for unit of hire, AHA ACLS and / or PALS and / or NRP.
