About the role
We’re building our Developer Relations team and are looking for a senior technical writer with a web-development background.
You’ll teach our third-party developers to build Root Apps using web tech UI like React and Material and code-behind logic written in TypeScript.
Responsibilities
Create and maintain developer documentation, tutorials, and sample code.
- Write using best practices from technical writing and instructional design
- Develop code samples that leverage and demonstrate the features of the Root platform
- Pioneer design patterns and best practices for Root Apps
- Be the voice of the developer to the engineering team; influence the direction of the Root APIs and developer experience
What does success look like?
Content is effective and ready on time for product launch.
- Your content works; developers get technical answers and learn the big-picture concepts
- Your samples are enabling; developers can build great Apps by emulating your architecture and reusing your code
- Your content and samples handle all levels; new developers get the help they need while experienced developers feel you value their time
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience as web-tech developer and 2+ years of experience as a technical writer.
Developer skills
- CSS frameworks such as Material, Bootstrap, or Tailwind and associated component libraries
- Web frameworks such as React or Angular
- TypeScript
Writing skills
- Writer : You’re a wordsmith that writes for technical and nontechnical audiences. Your writing is accessible because it’s structurally consistent and uses Plain English.
- Editor : You create and follow style guidelines. You enjoy finding typos and inconsistencies. You have strong opinions about gerunds.
- Teacher : You know the difference between a how-to and a tutorial. You get excited when your exercises reach the analyze or evaluate level of Bloom’s.
You use analogies and infographics to make technical content understandable.
General skills
- Analytical skills to define a problem, identify solutions, and recommend a course of action
- Communication skills to educate others on how your projects are designed, implemented, and maintained
- Project management skills to keep stakeholders informed and deliver to a timeline
