DESCRIPTION

Under physician supervision, the incumbent will support the Sports Medicine and Orthopedics practice by providing patient healthcare, support / education and community outreach.

Primary responsibility will be to support the Sports Medicine surgical practice with physician support and patient / athlete care.

In the medical clinic, the AT will assist with day-to-day operations. Duties include rooming patients, assist in the patient intake process, and retrieval of necessary records relevant to the patient visit.

The AT provides physician support by assisting with patient prep, assessment / evaluation and education, DME fitting / ordering, gait training and other duties as requested with-in scope of practice.

The AT provides instruction in home exercise programs and return-to-activity protocols, and conducts strength, flexibility and biomechanical assessments, as required.

May provide casting services ordered by the physician including casting / taping / splinting, wound debriding, suture removal, crutch / cane training, supportive hardware adjustments, and fracture reductions.

Other responsibilities include assisting with the daily administration of clinic duties such as : returning selected patient phone calls, scheduling patient appointments, entering appropriate information into the Epic EMR, equipment / supply management, cleaning / disinfecting the environment and other tasks as assigned.

Secondarily, there may be opportunities for outreach that could consist of delivering community outreach / sports education programs to student athletes / parents and coaches, etc.

The AT may be involved in medical coverage for athletic events / games sponsored by UC San Diego Health. The AT may also provide athletic training assistance for selected high school sports programs or athletic clubs.

S / he will work independently as assigned, or in collaboration with athletic trainers, physicians, and other staff in delivering healthcare services for patients and athletes.

S / he will be expected to establish or continue to facilitate a working relationship with those athletic clubs or teams where s / he is involved in delivering sports medicine care.

The AT also assists with program and department projects and events, planning support for various athlete screening exams, and support for educational conferences and community event coverage.

Participates in selected research projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.

Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

Must have current ARC or AHA CPR / AED certifications.

Minimum of three (3+) or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer.

Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively to establish cooperative working relationships with persons of diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels within and outside the university.

Strong computer skills in programs relevant to job duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Completion of an Athletic Training Residency or Fellowship with emphasis in the physician practice.
  • One (1+) or more years of orthopedic clinic experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Work hours will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Possible travel, to assist at away events.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $33.29 - $59.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
