Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course.
San Jacinto College is looking for a part-time faculty instructor to teach Aerospace Structures at the new Edge Center located within Houston's Space Port.
Under supervision from the project coordinator and the director, the incumbent will teach a non-credit Aerospace Structures Technology course.
Duties include :
- Provide students with technical instruction in a safe and clean learning environment.
- Utilize teaching strategies and instructional materials for various learning styles.
- Evaluate student mastery of skills in :
- Ability to read and correctly interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Use of precision instruments such as calipers and micrometers in order to manufacture, trim, or drill parts.
- Verifying quality of finished product.
- Troubleshooting
- And any other skill sets as required
- Conduct mastery assessments as required per the curriculum.
- May require administrative duties such as maintaining records, taking attendance, tracking evaluations, ordering supplies, equipment and inventory control and other related duties.
- May be required to maintain clean, secure, orderly, and safe classrooms, laboratories, equipment, and materials.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- And other duties as assigned.
Will include teaching day, evening and some weekend courses. This position may require standing for extended periods of time, stooping, walking, climbing, and bending to supervise students.
Exposure to hazardous materials is possible and will require safe handling, use and disposal. Some classes require using flammable and / or inert high-pressure gasses, and using high-pressure hydraulic equipment.
Lifting, and positioning of heavy equipment in preparation for classes and labs may be required. Work may be required in an environment that varies from hot to cold (seasonal) which can be both noisy and dusty.
Required Qualifications :
- One (1) year of teaching Aviation / Aerospace Structures courses and / or technical material in an On the Job training or educational setting.
- Three (3) years of documented experience in : aviation structures, manufacturing, or a technically related field specializing in structural fabrication and repair.
- Must have excellent knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and FAA standards as they relate to aerospace / aircraft fabrication, maintenance, and training.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Associate's Degree in aviation / aerospace, manufacturing, engineering, or related field from a regionally accredited college / university.
- Five (5) or more years documented experience in : aviation, manufacturing, or a technically related field specializing in structural fabrication and repair.
- Three (3) or more years teaching Aviation / Aerospace Structures courses and / or technical material.
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
Salary Grade : 2020AHAH
