Position Title : Senior Back-End Java Developer

Location : Onsite - 5 days / week in McLean, VA

Experience Level : 6 - 8 Years

Work Type : 1099 / C2C / W2

Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Java Developer to join our technology delivery team. The role requires deep expertise in backend engineering, microservices development, and enterprise cloud environments. You will design, build, and optimize secure, scalable Spring Boot microservices , driving best practices across engineering, automation, and cloud integration.

This position is onsite at Freddie Mac HQ in McLean, VA and offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with stakeholders, influence architecture decisions, and contribute to enterprise-scale solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Gradle .

Build and integrate RESTful and GraphQL APIs for secure, efficient service-to-service communication.

Implement automation testing frameworks and write unit tests (JUnit) to ensure high-quality code.

Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB , and relational databases (Oracle / MySQL).

Manage containerized applications with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Amazon EKS, and Helm charts .

Configure and maintain CI / CD pipelines using Jenkins for automated build, test, and deployment.

Secure sensitive data and credentials using HashiCorp Vault or similar secret management tools.

Conduct code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning for reliability and scalability.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Work with AWS cloud environments , ensuring security, scalability, and availability of applications.

Apply Agile practices with Jira for sprint planning, tracking, and delivery.

Partner with business stakeholders and IT teams to align architecture with enterprise strategy.

Drive continuous improvement of development processes, workflows, and automation .

Required Skills & Experience

Strong expertise in Java (8+) and Spring Boot for scalable, secure microservices.

Proven experience designing and integrating RESTful and GraphQL APIs .

Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB , and other relational / non-relational data stores.

Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Amazon EKS, and Helm charts .

Strong CI / CD experience with Jenkins for automated build / deployment workflows.

Practical knowledge of AWS cloud platforms and cloud-native design principles.

Experience with JUnit (unit testing) and Postman (API testing) .

Knowledge of automation testing frameworks for microservices.

Experience with HashiCorp Vault or similar tools for secure secret / config management.

Strong proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Experience in debugging, code reviews, and performance optimization .

Ability to write clean, maintainable, efficient code following best practices.

Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in Agile, cross-functional teams .

Continuous improvement mindset—enhancing processes, workflows, and automation .

Preferred Qualifications

Past Freddie Mac experience / knowledge is highly desirable.

Experience working in financial services or mortgage industry .

Familiarity with enterprise-scale integration and modernization projects.
