The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and / or Practice / Office Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit, preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately, always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. The MA demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

  • Provides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics.
  • Partners with the patient and significant others and / or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.
  • Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians / APPs.
  • Prepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians / APPs with treatment of patients.
  • Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.
  • Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.
  • May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions.

Required Minimum Education :

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting
  • Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) :

  • CMA - Cert Medical Assistant
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • Required Minimum Experience :

    Experience in the physician practice setting Preferred and Minimum 1 year Experience in the area or specialty the candidate is applying for Preferred

    Required Minimum Skills :

    Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction. High Ability to read, write and speak English language; basic computer skills required. High Must be organized and attentive to detail. High Ability to engage in teamwork and maintain positive working relationships.
