Definition of Classification :

The Assistant / Associate Director of International Recruitment coordinates international recruitment, admission, and marketing efforts for the University and its affiliated merger partners.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Undergraduate Admissions with a dotted reporting line to the Vice President of Enrollment, this position collaborates with key internal and external University stakeholders regarding international recruitment and facilitates the admissions process for prospective international students, US Citizens overseas, and their families.

Serves the international campus community as an information source for procedures and as an evaluator of credentials for the campus population.

Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) and to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities :

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Develops a coordinated undergraduate and graduate international recruitment plan to meet desired enrollment objectives.
  • In collaboration with key campus stakeholders, builds strategic admission relationships with a variety of constituencies ranging from high school to college counselors, agents, vendors, Education USA advisors and other strategic partners.
  • Develops new and enhances existing communication systems for international recruitment.
  • Oversees and provides guidance on evaluation and interpretation of international transcripts, and advisement of students on core requirements and available academic programs;

evaluates and interprets records as necessary.

  • In coordination with Student Financial Services, oversees administration of scholarships and discounting strategies for international students.
  • Responds to inquiries from prospective international students, applicants, and related constituencies promptly and accurately.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to university stakeholders and admissions staff regarding market conditions and matters involving international admissions operations.
  • Collaborates with faculty recruitment liaisons and other recruitment staff to achieve desired enrollment objectives.
  • Collaborates with Office of International Students and Scholars to support successful transitions for international students to the University.
  • This position will have international as well as domestic territories with an expected 6-8 weeks of recruitment travel annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following :

Experience / Training / Education :

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in international affairs, marketing, business administration or related fields.
  • Two years progressively responsible experience working in international recruitment, international admissions, or international student services.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required. Note : Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment.

A valid California Class C driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).

Preferred

  • Master’s degree.
  • Bilingual

Knowledge and Skills :

  • Knowledge of applicable international, federal, and state laws and regulations including immigration regulations.
  • Ability to apply legal and policy standards.
  • Understanding of international student recruitment trends and / or higher education enrollment management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent ability to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations.
  • Interviewing, and public speaking skills
  • Commitment to students and possess well-developed motivational skills.
  • Work independently in a multi-task-oriented environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism, sensitivity, and neutrality.
  • Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations.
  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions :

Working Conditions :

Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings.

At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) and to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends, as required

  • Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work;
  • use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file;
  • climb stairs; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer;

hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and / or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
