Position Overview
The Community Children’s Center provides full time early care and education services for homeless children and support services for parents, in an atmosphere of safety, nurturance, and stability.
The Education Manager is responsible for the day to day operations and supervision of 5 to 6 classrooms and as well as the staff that support those rooms.
An Education Manager reviews important decisions with the Center Director as well as assists with management coverage.
Horizons Leadership
- Participate in administration of and implementation of programs to promote an inclusive and positive work environment in order to engage and retain staff.
- Keep team focused and motivated by offering balanced and constructive feedback at regular intervals, rewarding successful outcomes, and promptly addressing poor performance.
- Ensures completion of IPDP’s for all teaching staff and provides support and assistance to ensure ongoing monitoring of the plans.
- Effectively monitor and evaluate usage of tools for staff and classrooms, including CLASS, ITERS / ECERS, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and the Brigance Screening Tool.
- Facilitate monthly Team meetings with staff to discuss, plan, and coordinate needed services and referrals for children.
- Engage in ongoing monitoring of classrooms to ensure compliance with all standards (EEC, QRIS, NAEYC & Head Start).
- Support the Center Director in establishing and sustaining a sense of community through family involvement using a variety of forums, such as events, newsletters, family boards and workshops.

Instruct teaching teams about full scope of classroom responsibility and in techniques for taking initiative and sharing responsibilities as a team.

Protect confidential information related to staff and families, and treat necessary communications related to such information with sensitivity.
Health, Safety, Licensing
Must comply with mandated reporting requirements. Suspected child abuse or neglect must be promptly reported to the appropriate State agency immediately.
When someone reports a concern regarding the care of children or a risk to the safety of children, staff or families, promptly report this to the appropriate agency and director.
Assist the Center Director with taking steps to investigate as appropriate.
Develop systems for verifying that licensing regulations and health and safety requirements are being followed throughout the center / school and that teachers are properly supervising children and following tracking procedures.
Staffing
- Responsible for the daily program operations including staff schedules and monitoring classroom coverage, assisting as needed due to staffing issues or to respond to the needs of individual children.
- Serve as a role model for all staff in interactions with children and their families
- Orient new team members to classroom routines and curriculum implementation
- Conduct monthly observations of Lead Teaching staff and ensures that all teaching staff are receiving monthly observations and feedback.
- Participate in decisions regarding probationary action and termination of employment
Curriculum
- Monitors the Lead Teachers in their design and implementation of curriculum and individualization of lesson plans.
- Supervise and model the implementation of positive behavior management techniques in guiding children’s behavior.
- Oversee Lead Teachers use of TSGOLD and ensures parent input
Qualifications

Education & Experience
- BA Degree in ECE or related field
- Minimum of 3 credit-bearing hours of specialized college-level course work in administration, leadership or management
- Minimum 12 training hours that are related to management knowledge or skills and to early childhood knowledge or skills
- Prefer a minimum of 5 years work experience as a Lead Teacher in an NAEYC Accredited program
- Must have maintained good standing in annual performance reviews for at least 3 years consecutively and have a letter of recommendation and support from their current director.
- Department of EEC Lead Teacher qualified, prefer Director 1
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated excellence in supervision, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to collaborate and solve problems using a team approach
- At least five years supervisory experience as a Lead Teacher or higher
- Ability and willingness to handle all sensitive information confidentially
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Priority will be given to individuals who have had previous experience working with homeless children and families, multi-ethnic urban families or with children-at-risk
- Proficiency in using MS Office applications and other relevant ECE software applications
