Job Description :

Seeking a staff scientist with 3+ years’ experience to work independently and with the Project team to manage hazardous waste containers, perform inspections, manage drum shipments, manage manifests and document hazardous waste management in order to meet both Department of Energy and State of New Mexico requirements.

The successful individual will be capable of self-directing and maintaining a complex schedule of activities including inspections, container collection, processing waste containers and preparing comprehensive documentation for waste shipments.

A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental health, engineering or related field is preferred, but not required.

Requirements include the ability to successfully pass a background check and possess a valid drivers’ license with a driving record that is free of any major offenses or multiple minor offenses.

The successful candidate will (1) be proficient with MS Office software, (2) have demonstrated mechanical aptitude, (3) have the ability to perform computations and calculations, (4) work and communicate effectively in team situations, and (5) represent CTI in a professional, ethical manner with clients and colleagues alike and (6) exhibit well developed organizational skills This individual must communicate facts in a timely manner in verbal and written form, assess conditions and data, and communicate recommendations.

Responsibilities include :

  • Complying with Health & Safety requirements
  • Collecting and managing waste containers, preparation of containers for shipment in accordance with hazardous waste regulations and DOT Hazardous Materials regulations and management of all regulatory documentation associated with inspections and shipments.
  • Completing necessary forms and documentation of field surveys and inspections such as field information forms, inspection forms, and chain-of-custody.
  • Familiarity and experience with data input / extract using spreadsheets and databases; ability to sort and manage data, conduct calculations in spreadsheet applications and prepare reports using data available in computer applications.
  • Assisting compliance personnel in the interpretation of data and preparation of technical reports.
  • Inspecting and maintaining equipment associated with waste handling.
  • Preparing inspection reports, correspondence and data / progress reports.
  • Applying standard operating procedures to field activities and techniques in specific situations and overseeing the implementation of SOPs by junior level staff
  • Interacting with a wide variety of clients and good customer service skills.
  • Keeping written records in an organized, presentable, and reproducible manner.
  • Interacting with client and other personnel.
  • Working outdoors in all seasons, and capability of lifting at least 50 lbs., and using equipment such as dollies to manage containers weighing up to 400 lbs.

Qualifications include :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Engineering or related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Must have 40 hour Hazwoper, DOT Hazmat and Hazardous Waste training.
  • Organization, written communication, and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to work constructively in diverse teams including engineers, technicians, and non-technical personnel.

Additional Requirements :

  • CTI is a Drug-Free Workplace - Must pass pre-hire drug screen.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
